Is the Zero Reynolds Number Approximation Valid for Ciliary Flows?
Stokes equations are commonly used to model the hydrodynamic flow around cilia on the micron scale. The validity of the zero Reynolds number approximation is investigated experimentally with a flow velocimetry approach based on optical tweezers, which allows the measurement of periodic flows with high spatial and temporal resolution.

Measurement of ciliary beating and fluid flow in the zebrafish adult telencephalon
Summary: Motile cilia are hair-like structures that move and propel fluid, playing important roles in the physiology of organs. Here, we present a protocol to visualize and measure ciliary beating and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow in the telencephalon ...

Effects of Dorzolamide on Choroidal Blood Flow, Ciliary Blood Flow, and Aqueous Production in Rabbits [PDF]
To determine the effects of topical dorzolamide (a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor) on choroidal and ciliary blood flow and the relationship between ciliary blood flow and aqueous flow. The experiments were performed in four groups of pentobarbital-anesthetized rabbits treated with topical dorzolamide (2%, 50 microL).

Reorganisation of complex ciliary flows around regeneratingStentor coeruleus [PDF]
SummaryThe phenomenon of ciliary coordination has garnered increasing attention in recent decades, with multiple theories accounting for its emergence in different contexts. The heterotrich ciliateStentor coeruleusis a unicellular organism which boasts a number of features which present unrivalled opportunities for biophysical studies of cilia ...

Mucous Flow and Ciliary Activity in the Trachea of Rats Exposed to Pulmonary Irritant Gas [PDF]
In the field of occupational hygiene questions frequently arise concerning the effect on the respira tory tract of inhaled gases and of vapours from industrial solvents. The action of such agents is primarily on the mucosa of the respiratory tract. Any study of this question necessarily involves determination of the rates of mucous flow and ciliary ...
