Bed bug cytogenetics: karyotype, sex chromosome system, FISH mapping of 18S rDNA, and male meiosis in Cimex lectularius Linnaeus, 1758 (Heteroptera: Cimicidae)

open access: yesComparative Cytogenetics, 2010
Bugs (Insecta: Heteroptera) are frequently used as examples of unusual cytogenetic characters, and the family Cimicidae is one of most interest in this respect.

Propicimex tucmatiani (Wygodzinsky, 1951) (Hemiptera, Cimicidae, Cimicinae): a new bat ectoparasite for the Corrientes province, Argentina [PDF]

open access: yesCheck List, 2017
The literature cites 4 species of bat-parasiting Cimicidae in Argentina: Cimex lectularius Linnaeus, 1758, Propicimex tucmatiani (Wygodzinsky 1951) (both Cimicinae), Latrocimex spectans (Lent 1941) (Latrocimicinae), and Bucimex chilensis Usinger

Preimaginal development of Aedes aegypti L. (Diptera: Culicidae) in brackish water gives rise to adult mosquitoes with thicker cuticles and greater insecticide resistance

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
The principal arboviral vector Aedes aegypti can develop in coastal brackish water field habitats (0.5–15 g/L salt) with larvae possessing thicker cuticles and greater resistance to the larvicide Temephos. Females emerging from brackish water‐developing preimaginal stages are now shown to have thicker and remodelled leg and abdominal cuticles and ...

Conspecific cueing or cooperative feeding?—Foraging stable flies are visually attracted to conspecific flies

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
In two‐choice laboratory bioassays, food‐deprived and CO2‐stimulated stable flies were offered paired landing platforms that were baited or not (control) with conspecific flies. The presence of conspecifics prompted the attraction and landing of foraging stable flies.

Diversity of Resilin Incidence in the Insect Leg

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 287, Issue 6, June 2026.
Resilin incidences in the insect cuticle are commonly detected by fluorescence microscopy using the property of Resilin protein matrices to emit blue light after excitation with UV light. This indirect method produces significant background signal.

Insect Olfactory Receptor‐Expressing Sensor Cells for Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis Using Urine Samples

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2026.
We developed a novel, noninvasive diagnostic method for colorectal cancer using sensor cells expressing insect ORs that detect volatile organic compounds in urine samples. By analyzing the luminescence responses of sensor cells and applying machine learning, our model achieved 80% sensitivity and an ROC‐AUC of 0.84 in distinguishing colorectal cancer ...
