AbstractPorcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is a member of the familyCircoviridae, a recently established virus family composed of small, non-enveloped viruses, with a circular, single-stranded DNA genome. PCV2, which is found all over the world in the domestic pig and probably the wild boar, has been recently associated with a number of disease syndromes,

Cloning and sequencing of columbid circovirus (CoCV), a new circovirus from pigeons
Archives of Virology, 2000The complete nucleotide sequence of columbid circovirus (CoCV) isolated from pigeons is described. CoCV was amplified using a consensus primer PCR approach directed against conserved sequences within the rep genes of vertebrate circoviruses. The genome of CoCV is circular and 2037 nt in size.

Porcine circoviruses (PCVs) belong to the genus Circovirus and the family Circoviridae, and they are the smallest known viruses that replicate autonomously in mammalian cells. They are nonenveloped, and they have characteristic single-stranded, negative-sense, circular DNA. Two types of divergent PCVs are recognized: PCV1 and PCV2. About 20 years ago,

Transcription Analysis of Porcine Circovirus (PCV)
Virus Genes, 1998This study focuses on gene expression of porcine circovirus (PCV) in order to identify viral genes and their corresponding mRNA transcripts. By northern blot analysis, the existence of three mRNAs could be demonstrated. Two mRNAs are encoded by the viral (-)-strand and one is encoded by the viral (+)-strand.

In the 1990s Post-weaning, multi-systemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) emerged in N. America and Europe as a major disease problem with significant welfare and economic consequences for pig producers. The disease, characterised by wasting, respiratory, enteric and lymphoid system problems in pigs of 4-16 weeks of age, has since spread so that today it has a

Genetic diversity of pigeon circovirus in Hungary
Virus Genes, 2011Pigeon circoviruses (PiCV) had been identified worldwide and are responsible for immune suppression and a variety of diseases collectively referred to as young pigeon disease syndrome. Samples from racing pigeons were collected throughout Hungary and analyzed for the presence of PiCV by polymerase chain reaction.

Comments on duck circovirus (DuCV) genotype definition
Gene, 2014A standardised methodology has been used to define genotypes based on pairwise sequence comparisons (PASC). PASC is a widely accepted method in virus taxonomy, which is based on the histogram of pairwised differences among sequences. Recently, Zhang et al.

[Circovirus infections in pigeons].
Tierarztliche Praxis, 1997The first detection of circovirus infection in pigeons in Germany is described. The existing experiences with this still little known pigeon disease are summarized and similarities to circovirus infections in other species are shown.
