Mating activates neuroendocrine pathways signaling hunger in Drosophila females
Mated females reallocate resources to offspring production, causing changes to nutritional requirements and challenges to energy homeostasis. Although observed across species, the neural and endocrine mechanisms that regulate the nutritional needs of ...

Circuits and Circuit Disorders of the Basal Ganglia [PDF]
Views of the anatomy and function of the basal ganglia and their role in motor and nonmotor disorders have undergone major revisions during the past decades. The basal ganglia are now appreciated as components of parallel, reentrant cortico-subcortical circuits, which originate from individual cortical areas, traverse the basal ganglia and thalamus ...

Constant-depth circuits vs. monotone circuits
We establish new separations between the power of monotone and general (non-monotone) Boolean circuits: - For every $k \geq 1$, there is a monotone function in ${\sf AC^0}$ that requires monotone circuits of depth $Ω(\log^k n)$. This significantly extends a classical result of Okol'nishnikova (1982) and Ajtai and Gurevich (1987).

A generalized class of dynamic translinear circuits [PDF]
This brief proposes a generalization of the class of "dynamic translinear," or "exponential state-space," circuits. As an illustration of the proposed general class of dynamic translinear circuits, the brief describes the design of a second-order ...

Characterizing Inductive and Capacitive Nonlinear RLC Circuits: A Passivity Test [PDF]
Linear time-invariant RLC circuits are said to be inductive (capacitive) if the current waveform in sinusoidal steady-state has a negative (resp., positive) phase shift with respect to the voltage.

The electromagnetic analog of an elastic spring-mass network is constructed. These electromagnetic circuits offer the promise of manipulating electromagnetic fields in new ways, and linear electrical circuits correspond to a subclass of them. They consist of thin triangular magnetic components joined at the edges by cylindrical dielectric components ...

A multilayer circuit architecture for the generation of distinct locomotor behaviors in Drosophila
Animals generate diverse motor behaviors, yet how the same motor neurons (MNs) generate two distinct or antagonistic behaviors remains an open question.

Thalamic circuit mechanisms link sensory processing in sleep and attention
The correlation between sleep integrity and attentional performance is normally interpreted as poor sleep causing impaired attention. Here, we provide an alternative explanation for this correlation: common thalamic circuits regulate sensory processing ...

Advances in approaches to study cell-type specific cortical circuits throughout development
Neurons in the neocortex and hippocampus are diverse and form synaptic connections that depend on their type. Recent work has improved our understanding of neuronal cell-types and how to target them for experiments.
