Transonic flow about a circular cylinder

Computers & Fluids, 1989
Abstract Transonic flows governed by the Euler equations, about half and full circular cylinders, are investigated numerically. The tool to carry out this study is a finite-difference method based upon an upwind hybrid formulation, a blend of the “lambda” and the “flux-difference splitting” formulations. In the case of the half cylinder, a separation

Transient Thermal Stresses in a Circular Cylinder

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1961
This paper contains an exact solution for the transient temperature distribution, as well as for the accompanying quasi-static thermal stresses and deformations, which arise in an infinitely long elastic circular shaft if its surface temperature undergoes a sudden uniform change over a finite band between two cross sections and is steadily maintained ...

Motion of a Circular Cylinder in a Vibrating Liquid

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2001
The motion of a circular cylinder under gravity in an ideal liquid bounded from the outside by a vibrating wall is determined using numerical methods.

CIRCULAR SHEARING OF COMPRESSIBLE ELASTIC CYLINDERS

The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics, 1993
Summary: We consider the problem of circular shearing for compressible isotropic, homogeneous, hyperelastic right circular cylinders. First we consider the case of pure circular shearing where there is no radial displacement. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions on the strain-energy function of the material for the existence of such a ...

Scattering of Lamb waves by a circular cylinder

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2001
Following our previous attempt at the scattering from a cylinder in a slab to the incidence of a guided shear wave, we hereby discuss the scattering by an elastic cylinder embedded in an isotropic plate for a variety of bonding states to incidence of the fundamental Lamb wave modes S0 and A0 at the low-frequency regime.

Single scattering of light by circular cylinders

Applied Optics, 1994
We consider two topics pertaining to light scattering by circular cylinders. (A) Scattering properties of cylinders with increasing aspect ratio are studied. It is shown that the solution for finite cylinders does not converge to the solution for infinitely long cylinders if the aspect ratio increases.

Base Pressure of Oscillating Circular Cylinders

Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1976
Experiments have been made to investigate the base pressure coefficients of circular cylinders oscillating transversely in a stream for a wide range of cylinder amplitudes and frequencies. This is thought to give a good indication of the variation in drag coefficient.

Cylinders and Circular Plates

2009
The bounded harmonic potentials of equations (24.27) in combination with solutions A, B and E provide a complete solution to the problem of a solid circular cylinder loaded by axisymmetric polynomial tractions on its curved surfaces. The corresponding problem for the hollow cylinder can be solved by including also the singular potentials of equation ...

Stereology of parallel, straight, circular cylinders

Journal of Microscopy, 1976
SUMMARYNew stereological formulae are developed to quantify an array of straight, parallel, circular cylinders. The problem arose through the necessity to determine the average length and surface density of the crypts of the large intestine. These crypts or glands have the shape of test tubes.
