Effect of a splitter plate on the performance of magnetostrictive flow-induced vibrational power generator using a cantilevered circular cylinder

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu
In order to improve a vibrational power generator using a magnetostrictive material, i.e., Iron-gallium alloy, and flow-induced vibration of a cantilevered cylinder, a fixed splitter plate was installed behind a cantilevered circular cylinder. Effects of

The Study about Drag Reduction of a Circular Cylinder with Grooves

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Science and Technology, 2011
In this study, two kinds of circular cylinders which cut grooves to the cylinder surface for the purpose of cylinder drag reduction were produced. One of which is the circular cylinder which set 2 grooves in the cylinder upstream side, and other is the ...

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Safety Analysis Using Lebesgue Strain Measure of Thick-Walled Cylinder for Functionally Graded Material under Internal and External Pressure

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2013
Safety analysis has been done for thick-walled circular cylinder under internal and external pressure using transition theory which is based on the concept of generalized principal Lebesgue strain measure.

Spheres and Prolate and Oblate Ellipsoids from an Analytical Solution of Spontaneous Curvature Fluid Membrane Model

open access: yes, 1999
An analytic solution for Helfrich spontaneous curvature membrane model (H. Naito, M.Okuda and Ou-Yang Zhong-Can, Phys. Rev. E {\bf 48}, 2304 (1993); {\bf 54}, 2816 (1996)), which has a conspicuous feature of representing the circular biconcave shape, is ...

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Study the Flow behind a Semi-Circular Step Cylinder (Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD))

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) measurements, flow visualizations and unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations have been carried out to study the turbulent wake that is formed behind a semi-circular ...

Four-vortex motion around a circular cylinder

open access: yes, 2013
The motion of two pairs of counter-rotating point vortices placed in a uniform flow past a circular cylinder is studied analytically and numerically. When the dynamics is restricted to the symmetric subspace---a case that can be realized experimentally ...

Can a circulating light beam produce a time machine? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In a recent paper, Mallett found a solution of the Einstein equations in which closed timelike curves (CTC's) are present in the empty space outside an infinitely long cylinder of light moving in circular paths around an axis.
