Reinforced Circular Holes in Cylindrical Shells

The Aeronautical Journal, 1970
The analysis of a cylindrical shell with cut-outs, which are reinforced to reduce the stress concentrations, is of importance in many engineering fields, particularly in aircraft structures. The most common assumptions made are that the curvature effect is negligible and that the reinforcement is a compact flexible bead.

Buckling of Circular Cylindrical Shells

2017
This chapter is devoted to the stability behavior of thin cylindrical shells. The basic governing equations of thin circular cylindrical shells employing the Donnell theory with the von-Karman geometrical non-linearity are derived. The nonlinear strain-displacement relations, the nonlinear equilibrium equations, and the linear stability equations are ...

Transient creep of circular cylindrical shells

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1969
Abstract Transient creep analysis of circular cylindrical shells on the basis of the strain-hardening and time-hardening theories is presented. Total strain is assumed to consist of elastic and creep components. Equations of equilibrium are replaced by the corresponding difference equations with regard to the rate of displacement, and the solutions ...

Complex dynamics of circular cylindrical shells

International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 2014
Abstract Complex dynamics of circular cylindrical shells subjected to inertial axial loads are investigated. The shell is vertically mounted on a shaker, i.e. its base is clamped to the shaker fixture, which induces a vertical motion along the shell axis.

Flow around a Circular Cylindrical Shell

Fluid Dynamics, 2020
The results of the simulation of separationless jet flow around an elastic cylindrical shell under nonlinear boundary conditions are presented. The mean pressure action on the shell is taken into account. The solution is obtained in the form of series in the powers of the aerohydroelasticity parameter.

Stresses in Damaged Circular Cylindrical Shells

1990
Circular cylindrical shells containing localised dent type damage are shown to develop high levels of local stress concentration. For a generalised analysis procedure, the dent damage is represented by means of a normal pressure applied to the perfect shell for analysis.

An optimal compressed circular cylindrical shell

Polymer Mechanics, 1975
The stability is considered for a shell of optimum weight. An isotropic shell is found to be suitable, and the bifurcation in the undeformed state can occur via an axially symmetric or other form. This explains the sensitivity of an isotropic shell to perturbation.

Dynamic instability of circular cylindrical shells

2005
In the present paper the nonlinear dynamic stability of circular cylindrical shells subjected to dynamic axial loads is investigated. Both Donnell's nonlinear shallow shell and Sanders' theories have been applied in order to evaluate their accuracy. The effect of a contained fluid on the dynamic stability and the postcritical behaviour is analysed in ...
