Vibrations of circular cylindrical shells: Theory and experiments
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2007Abstract In the present paper, a method for analysing linear and nonlinear vibrations of circular cylindrical shells having different boundary conditions is presented; the method is based on the Sanders–Koiter theory. Displacement fields are expanded in a mixed double series based on harmonic functions and Chebyshev polynomials.

The Flexure of a Uniformly Pressurized, Circular, Cylindrical Shell
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1958Abstract This paper presents the moment-curvature relationship and the components of displacement in the cross section of a uniformly pressurized, long, closed, circular, cylindrical shell. The shell is loaded in one of its principal planes by two equal and opposite terminal couples: First, the shell undergoes small initial displacements.

Creep analysis of circular cylindrical shells
AIAA Journal, 1965Abstract : Governing equations for nonlinear creep analysis of thin circular cylindrical shells are derived based upon a power law for creep. These equations are solved for a clamped shell subjected to uniform internal pressure. The method of solution is one of iteration where the starting solution is that for the linear case.

Dynamics of circular cylindrical shells in contact with fluid
1998This study focuses on the dynamic interactions between finite thin elastic circular cylindrical shells and fluids. The physical coupling phenomenon is explored considering liquid storage tanks and short tubes with an annular flow. Free radial vibrations of tanks are investigated by a classical theoretical analysis, finite element (FE) analysis and ...

Bending of Circular Cylindrical Shells
1960In the preceding Chapters dealing with the membrane theory of shells, we often met questions which this theory could not answer. This indicates that in certain cases the bending stiffness of the shell, although small, cannot be disregarded and that it is necessary to develop a bending theory.

Buckling of Circular Cylindrical Shells
2017This chapter is devoted to the stability behavior of thin cylindrical shells. The basic governing equations of thin circular cylindrical shells employing the Donnell theory with the von-Karman geometrical non-linearity are derived. The nonlinear strain-displacement relations, the nonlinear equilibrium equations, and the linear stability equations are ...

Complex dynamics of circular cylindrical shells
International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 2014Abstract Complex dynamics of circular cylindrical shells subjected to inertial axial loads are investigated. The shell is vertically mounted on a shaker, i.e. its base is clamped to the shaker fixture, which induces a vertical motion along the shell axis.

Transient creep of circular cylindrical shells
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1969Abstract Transient creep analysis of circular cylindrical shells on the basis of the strain-hardening and time-hardening theories is presented. Total strain is assumed to consist of elastic and creep components. Equations of equilibrium are replaced by the corresponding difference equations with regard to the rate of displacement, and the solutions ...

MODAL LOCALIZATION IN VIBRATING CIRCULAR CYLINDRICAL SHELLS
24th International Conference on Sound and Vibration 2017, London CallingThe goal of the present paper is the analysis of the effect of geometric imperfections in circular cylindrical shells. Perfect circular shells are characterized by the presence of double shell-like modes, i.e., modes having the same frequency with modal shape shifted of a quarter of wave-length in the circumferential direction. In presence of geometric

On the Torsion of the Slit Circular Cylindrical Shell
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1984The complexity of shell analysis stems from the fact that loads are resisted, in general, by both membrane and flexural action. There is a need to develop a suitable shell finite element, but many of those proposed at the present time fail in the context of the “sensitive solutions” coupled with rigid body movements.
