AbstractNonideal mixing in many fermentation processes can lead to concentration gradients in nutrients, oxygen, and pH, among others. These gradients are likely to influence cellular behavior, growth, or yield of the fermentation process. Frequency of exposure to these gradients can be defined by the circulation time distribution (CTD).

the norwood procedure and its modifications have become the most commonly used surgical procedures for patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. many efforts have been made to understand the fluid dynamics of the norwood circulation, with the major impetus coming from the lumped-parameter model described by migliavacca et al.

The CFD (computational fluid dynamics) technique is used to describe the mixing conditions in a pilot‐scale FCC (forced‐circulation crystallizer) and to study the impact of flow rate and aspect ratio on local flow conditions and RTD (residence‐time distribution) in the crystallizer.

Vortex dynamics of veno-arterial extracorporeal circulation: A computational fluid dynamics study
Physics of Fluids, 2021Veno-arterial extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) is a modified heart lung machine used for patients with both heart and lung failure. This results in retrograde supply of oxygenated blood through the femoral artery in which the unsteady pulsating antegrade flow from the aorta interacts with a steady, uniform, and retrograde flow from the ...

Study on dynamics modeling and simulation of cerebrospinal fluid circulation
The 2nd International Conference on Information Science and Engineering, 2010Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring is important for patients with high intracranial pressure, but so far the clinical monitoring of intracranial pressure are almost invasive, so they are extremely limited. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation is the basis for intracranial pressure and hydrocephalus is one of the major reasons for high intracranial

Dynamics of Cerebrospinal Fluid Circulation Evaluated by Metrizamide CT Cisternography
Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 1979Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation has been analyzed by metrizamide computed tomography (CT) cisternography in 46 patients. Included were 7 patients without any clinical evidence of impaired CSF circulation, and 39 with hydrocephalus due to various causes.
