Endogenous “Time Bomb” – Mislocalized Phospholipase A2 as a Critical Mediator of Ultra‐Rapid Mortality in Sepsis and Acute Lung Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phospholipase A2 (PLA2), a dormant enzyme, becomes lethal when activated—collapsing lungs in minutes. Our dual therapy (DOPS + varespladib) boosts survival from 0% to >90% in sepsis/ALI. A breakthrough for acute lung injury treatment. ABSTRACT This study reveals that phospholipase A2 (PLA2), normally stable and nontoxic, can be activated specifically ...

Impellent impeller—Switching intra‐aortic balloon pump to IMPELLA‐CP after ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction and refractory cardiogenic shock

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, 2019
Cardiogenic shock is a dreadful complication of myocardial infarction. Despite widespread use and availability, intra‐aortic balloon pump (IABP) does not reduce mortality nor improves outcomes.

Restriction of Individual Branched‐Chain Amino Acids has Distinct Effects on the Development and Progression of Alzheimer's Disease in 3xTg Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Protein restriction (PR) slows Alzheimer's disease (AD) in mice, and other benefits of PR are due to decreased branched‐chain amino acids (BCAAs). We show that restricting any BCAA has benefits, with sex‐ and BCAA‐specific impacts on pathology, molecular signaling, and cognition.

Outcomes of following transcatheter and surgical interventions in patients with acute valvular dysfunction with cardiogenic shockCentral MessagePerspective

open access: yesJTCVS Open
Objectives: Although surgery remains the gold standard treatment for acute valvular dysfunction complicated by cardiogenic shock, transcatheter management has emerged as an alternative.

Deciphering and Targeting the Schwannoma‐Neuron‐Macrophage Crosstalk for the Treatment of Schwannomatosis and Associated Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We established patient‐derived SWN cell lines and orthotopic PDX models that recapitulate patient pain phenotypes, alongside a novel intravital DRG imaging platform to track macrophage infiltration and neuronal pain responses. Using these models, we define HMGB1–CCL2–IL‐6 signaling crosstalk driving pain and identify EGF signaling as a key regulator of

The utility of monitoring end-tidal carbon dioxide in emergency department to predict inhospital mortality of patients presenting with nontraumatic shock: A prospective observational study

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Emergency Medicine
OBJECTIVES: We aimed to identify the ability of end-tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO2) to predict inhospital mortality of patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with nontraumatic circulatory shock.

Activated Platelet–Released Heat Shock Protein 90α Triggers Autophagy‐Dependent Neutrophil Extracellular Trap Formation and Amplifies Sepsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
HSP90α is significantly upregulated in platelets from sepsis patients, with its origin from megakaryocyte‐derived trafficking. Furthermore, activated platelets secrete HSP90α into the extracellular space in both free and exosome‐associated forms. Finally, extracellular HSP90α directly engages TLR4 on neutrophils to induce autophagy, leading to NET ...

Distributive shock in cardiac intensive care unit patients

open access: yesIndian Heart Journal
Shock is a life-threatening condition of circulatory failure. Mixed shock is observed in approximately 24.5 % of patients with cardiogenic shock.
