Parasitic Plant–Host Interactions: Molecular Mechanisms and Agricultural Resistance Strategies
Parasitic plants devastate global agriculture through sophisticated molecular interactions with host crops. This review synthesizes current understanding of parasitic plant‐host interactions, from strigolactone‐mediated germination and haustorium formation to host defense mechanisms.

ABSTRACT This paper investigates the penetration performance of soil‐burrowing probes with different tip designs during shallow‐depth penetration in various media, including terrestrial soils (Hostun sand) and well‐characterized planetary soil simulants (LHS‐1 Lunar regolith simulant and MGS‐1 Martian regolith simulant).

Shoot circumnutation and winding movements require gravisensing cells [PDF]
Circumnutation and winding in plants are universal growth movements that allow plants to survive despite their sessile nature. However, the detailed molecular mechanisms controlling these phenomena remain unclear. We previously found that a gravitropic mutant of Japanese morning glory ( Pharbitis nil

Plant Cognition—An Empirical Primer: Evidence, Implications, and Ethics
ABSTRACT Recent advances in plant biology suggest that plants engage in complex behaviours once thought to require nervous systems. This article surveys the empirical foundations of plant cognition, covering research on goal‐directed movement, decision‐making, anticipatory behaviour, communication, phytoacoustics, and plant neurobiology.

Plant Cognition—A Methodological Primer: Theories, Methods and Challenges
ABSTRACT Part I: What counts as cognition, and how can it be studied in organisms without nervous systems? The emerging field of plant cognition confronts these questions by integrating philosophy, plant science and comparative psychology. This article provides a methodological primer on the field.

Current understanding of the role of the cell wall in Cuscuta parasitism
We comprehensively summarise the roles of plant cell wall in key processes of parasitism by the obligate stem parasite Cuscuta. Abstract The plant cell wall (CW) plays a crucial role in many aspects of parasitism by the obligate stem parasite, Cuscuta. Cuscuta parasitism begins with tight coiling around the host stem by the strong tensile force of the ...

A Photonastic Prototissue Capable of Photo‐Mechano‐Chemical Transduction
Mimicking energy transduction in prototissue assemblies remains a challenge of bottom‐up synthetic biology. In this work, prototissues integrating protocells with photothermal gold nanoparticle proto‐organelles and a thermoresponsive polymeric proto‐cortex are developed.

Temporal Dynamics With and Without a Nervous System: Plant Physiology, Communication, and Movement
Abstract The concept of time has long been the subject of complex philosophical reflections and scientific research, which have interpreted it differently based on the starting question, context, and level of analysis of the system under investigation.

Summary Phosphate (Pi) plays a key role in plant growth and development. Hence, plants display a range of adaptations to acquire it, including changes in root system architecture (RSA). Whether Pi triggers directional root growth is unknown. We investigated whether Arabidopsis roots sense Pi and grow towards it, that is whether they exhibit ...

A non-destructive method for measurements of spatial root elongation in soil, using acoustic emission (AE) sensors, was developed. Growing roots passing in close proximity to soil particles generate AE pulses, which are detectable as counts by AE sensors.
