Explosive Nucleosynthesis in Core-collapse Type II Supernovae: Insights from New C, N, Si, and Al–Mg Isotopic Compositions of Presolar Grains

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We report C, N, Si, and Al–Mg isotope data for 39 presolar X silicon carbide (SiC) and four silicon nitride grains—a group of presolar grains that condensed in the remnants of core-collapse Type II supernovae (CCSNe)—isolated from the Murchison meteorite.

Fifteen years of “Sonderforschungsbereich” in Heidelberg: Research on circumstellar matter [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1987
At the end of this year, the Sonderforschungsbereich (Special Collaborative Programme) no. 132 on “Theoretical and Observational Stellar Astronomy” in Heidelberg will terminate after fifteen years. Although 15 years are only 2 1/2 per cent of the age of the University of Heidelberg, which is celebrating its 600 th anniversary this year, they are ...

Supernova Resonance-Scattering Profiles in the Presence of External Illumination

open access: yes, 1999
We discuss a simple model for the formation of a supernova spectral line by resonance scattering in the presence of external illumination of the line-forming region by light from circumstellar interaction (toplighting).

The Effect of Viscosity on the Temperature of Ae Star Disks

open access: yesGalaxies
This study explores the impact of viscous heating on decretion disks around Classical Ae (CAe) stars, with a focus on modeling the disk’s thermal structure.

Constraints on gamma-ray burst and supernova progenitors through circumstellar absorption lines

open access: yes, 2005
Long gamma-ray bursts are thought to be caused by a subset of exploding Wolf-Rayet stars. We argue that the circumstellar absorption lines in early supernova and in gamma-ray burst afterglow spectra may allow us to determine the main properties of the ...

Circumstellar matter studied by spectrally-resolved interferometry

open access: yes, 2012
This paper describes some generalities about spectro-interferometry and the role it has played in the last decade for the better understanding of circumstellar matter. I provide a small history of the technique and its origins, and recall the basics of differential phase and its central role for the recent discoveries.

Recent and Future Studies of Circumstellar Matter – A Snapshot [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 1999
At this meeting, powerful new images and spectroscopy of AGB stars were presented. Theoretical models have advanced, and we are learning more from studies of the pre-solar grains isolated from meteorites. We suggest that several mass loss mechanisms may be operating in AGB stars: current images imply both spherical winds and highly flattened outflows ...

Grain growth in newly discovered young eruptive stars

open access: yes, 2020
FU Orionis-type stars are young stellar objects showing large outbursts due to highly enhanced accretion from the circumstellar disk onto the protostar.

SN 2024abvb: A Type Icn Supernova in the Outskirts of Its Host Galaxy

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present multiband photometric and spectroscopic observations of supernova (SN) 2024abvb, which exhibits early-time prominent photoionized narrow emission lines of C II superposed on a blue continuum.
