Synthetic Lung-cancer Cohorts Generated by a Large Language Model: Epidemiological Validity Assessment [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Respiratory Archives
Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used in medicine for clinical reasoning and educational simulation. This study assessed the epidemiological plausibility of a synthetic lung-cancer cohort generated by ChatGPT-4.0.

Disruption of Radiological Surveillance Following a Global Health Crisis in Resected Lung Cancer. [PDF]

open access: yesThorac Cancer
A national cohort study reveals a persistent 76.5% collapse in radiological surveillance density following a health crisis (falling to 0.023 CT/month). This under‐surveillance was non‐selective, showing no risk‐based prioritization by tumor stage, age, or comorbidity.

Residual pulmonary infiltrates, symptoms and diffusion impairment at 1‐year after severe COVID‐19 infection have different associated factors

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, Volume 294, Issue 1, Page 69-82, July 2023., 2023
Abstract Introduction After severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) pneumonia, patients may show lung sequelae on radiology and functional impairment at the 1‐year follow‐up. We aimed to describe the persistence of symptoms, radiological alterations, or reduced diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) at 1‐year ...

Promotion of physical activity after hospitalization for COPD exacerbation: A randomized control trial

open access: yesRespirology, Volume 28, Issue 4, Page 357-365, April 2023., 2023
We assessed the efficacy of a physical activity program after hospitalization for a COPD exacerbation. The participants of a 12‐week patient‐tailored, pedometer‐based, progressive and target‐driven physical activity program, increased their daily steps compared to control group after discharge.

Serum exosome inflamma‐miRs are surrogate biomarkers for asthma phenotype and severity

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 78, Issue 1, Page 141-155, January 2023., 2023
We measured the levels of several inflamma‐miRs in serum exosomes from 30 healthy and 119 asthmatic donors with different phenotypes and severities. miR‐21‐5p, miR‐126‐3p, miR146a‐5p, and miR‐215‐5p increased in MSA vs. MA and a logistic regression model was fitted (AUC=0.896).

How reliably can algorithms identify eosinophilic asthma phenotypes using non‐invasive biomarkers?

open access: yesClinical and Translational Allergy, Volume 12, Issue 8, August 2022., 2022
Abstract Background and Aims Asthma is a heterogeneous respiratory disease that encompasses different inflammatory and functional endophenotypes. Many non‐invasive biomarkers has been investigated to its pathobiology. Heany et al proposed a clinical algorithm that classifies severe asthmatic patients into likely‐eosinophilic phenotypes, based on ...

Bacterial metabolism and pathogenesis intimate intertwining: time for metabolic modelling to come into action

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 15, Issue 1, Page 95-102, January 2022., 2022
We take a snapshot of the recent understanding of bacterial metabolism and the bacterial‐host metabolic interplay during infection, and highlight key outcomes and challenges for the practical implementation of bacterial metabolic modelling computational tools in the pathogenesis field.
