Inline Oxygenation in Drip‐Irrigated Citrus: How Much Agrochemical Reduction Is Needed to Achieve Net Environmental Benefits?

open access: yesIrrigation and Drainage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The agronomic benefits of oxygen‐enriched irrigation, such as improved root development, enhanced nutrient uptake, and reduced fertiliser and pesticide requirements, are well documented. However, incorporating oxygenation devices into fertigation systems increases energy demand and material use, thereby incurring additional environmental ...

Beyond ENSO: Temperature, Rainfall Variability and Emerging Climate Risks in Belize

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
This study analyses 50 years (1975–2024) of Belize's climate data to evaluate ENSO's influence. Results show negligible ENSO impact on rainfall but a moderate signal in nighttime dry‐season temperatures, with El Niño years 0.5°C–1.0°C warmer than La Niña years.

Beyond a dual role: how Purpureocillium lilacinum reprograms citrus metabolism for integrated biocontrol and growth promotion

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Plants harbor complex microbial communities that are fundamental to their health and productivity. Among them, endophytic fungi such as Purpureocillium lilacinum establish mutualistic associations, offering dual benefits as plant growth promoters and biocontrol agents.

Biocontrol and plant growth‐promoting potential of Streptomyces strains against fungal pathogens of tomato and wheat for a sustainable agriculture

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
This study highlights the biocontrol potential of Streptomyces strain Strep_22. In vitro, it inhibits key fungal pathogens by 91.52%. In vivo, it significantly reduces disease incidence in wheat and tomato while enhancing biomass, shoot, and root development, offering a highly promising, sustainable ecological alternative to chemical pesticides ...

Evaluation of Different Container Types on Root Structure and Performance of Nursery-grown Citrus Plants

open access: yesHortScience
Health and quality of the root system are imperative to ensure the successful establishment of a citrus tree after transplant from the nursery into the field.

Soybean plant architecture influences the capacity of Telenomus podisi to parasitize Euschistus heros eggs: implications for field releases

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Increasing soybean plant architectural complexity reduces the ability of Telenomus podisi to parasitize Euschistus heros eggs, highlighting the need to adjust parasitoid release rates in the field according to plant complexity (arrow direction and thickness correspond to the increasing strength of the variable) . Abstract BACKGROUND Plant architectural

Nursery Diseases at Planting: What to Watch for

open access: yesEDIS, 2020
While the citrus nurseries work very hard and put considerable effort to reduce pest and disease problems in nurseries, there continues to be problems with certain diseases, because the nursery environment for growing citrus trees is also ideal for many

Reduced fitness cost accounts for the stability of a malathion‐resistant heterogeneous duplication haplotype in Ceratitis capitata field populations

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Malathion resistance in Spanish field populations of Ceratitis capitata is associated with a point mutation (R allele) and a heterogeneous duplication (RS haplotype) of the Ccace2 gene. The R allele imposes a higher fitness cost than the RS haplotype under laboratory and field conditions. An evolutionary model supports the stability of the RS haplotype

Automatic insect identification, counting, and monitoring techniques: a review

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Automated insect monitoring increasingly integrates optical, acoustic, infrared, radar, electrostatic, and biosensing technologies with artificial intelligence. No single approach is universally optimal; reliable deployment depends on task‐specific validation, representative datasets, robustness under field conditions, energy autonomy, connectivity ...

Sequence analysis of three citrus viroids infecting a single Tunisian citrus tree (Citrus, reticulata, Clementine)

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2006
We report the nucleotide sequences of three citrus viroids belonging to three different genera: Citrus exocortis viroid (CEVd), Hop stunt viroid (HSVd) and Citrus viroid-III (CVd-III) isolated from a single natural infected Citrus reticulata var ...
