Evaluation of Steam Application for Weed Management in Citrus

Applied Engineering in Agriculture, 2019
Abstract. In this study, a weed steamer was developed, and several steam treatments were utilized to maintain and control the growth of weeds in a citrus grove. Two factors affecting the steam treatment were studied: (i) tractor speed (low, 1.2 km/h; and high, 1.7 km/h); and (ii) steam flow rate (low, 15 L/h; and high 53 L/h).

Ecological Mowing: An Option for Sustainable Weed Management in Young Citrus Orchards

Weed Technology, 2017
The citrus yield in Brazil is not ranked among the best in the world, potentially due to inadequate management by citrus growers. The low adoption of conservation agriculture (CA) techniques and the improper application of herbicides are also well-known problems.

EVALUATION OF ANNUAL WARM-SEASON COVER CROPS FOR WEED MANAGEMENT IN ORGANIC CITRUS

Acta Horticulturae, 2010
The effectiveness of summer cover crops (CC) in suppressing weeds in a recently planted organic orange grove at a Certified Organic Research Site in Citra, Florida was evaluated between 2002 and 2005. In order to quantify the effectiveness of summer CC to suppress weeds, a cover crop/weed index (CC/WI) was also developed, which expresses the ratio of ...

Cover Crops and Natural Vegetation Mulch Effect Achieved by Mechanical Management with Lateral Rotary Mower in Weed Population Dynamics in Citrus

Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part B: Pesticides, Food Contaminants, and Agricultural Wastes, 2005
The aim of this study was to obtain information on practical weed management in order to reduce the use of herbicides thereby contributing to the sustainable development of citrus crop. The experiment was carried out under field conditions at the experimental area of the Department of Vegetal Production at the College of Agriculture "Luiz de Queiroz ...

Influence of weed management on the abundance of thrips species (Thysanoptera) and the predatory bug, Orius niger (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) in citrus mandarin

Applied Entomology and Zoology, 2019
Field trials were carried out in 2014 and 2015 in fields of Cukurova University Research and Implementation Area, Adana province, Turkey. The experiment was set up in an Okitsu mandarin orchard. Half of the mandarin orchard was left as weedy, and the other zone was mowed regularly and cleared of weeds.

Phytoseiid mites (Acari) are bio-indicators of agricultural practice impact on the agroecosystem functioning : the case of weed management in citrus orchards [PDF]

open access: possible, 2010
n tropical conditions, the weed management in citrus orchards is particularly problematic when the fields are not mechanized. To reduce competition between trees and weeds, the producers use herbicides in excess of the permitted annual dose, particularly for glyphosate.
