Traffic in the Smart City: Exploring City-Wide Sensing for Traffic Control Center Augmentation
IEEE Internet Computing, 2013Smart city technologies can provide substantial benefits that improve people's daily lives. Here, the authors investigate how ubiquitous traffic sensing technologies and techniques can be incorporated with conventional traffic control and monitoring practices in the city of Oulu, Finland.

The monograph is devoted to the consideration of issues relevant to the vast majority of cities-the organization and management of traffic flows to improve the mobility of the population, increase the speed and reduce the cost of transportation of passengers and goods, reduce the burden on the environment, etc.

Simulating the city traffic complexity induced by traffic light periods
Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2021We revisited the global traffic light optimization problem through a cellular automata model, which allows us to address the relationship between the traffic lights and car routing. We conclude that both aspects are not separable. Our results show that a good routing strategy weakens the importance of the traffic light period for mid-densities, thus ...

Traffic game in smart city for traffic management
2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys), 2017Using a traffic game in a social network to compensate the lack of traffic polices in overall patrol for enforcement is worth for trying. This paper develops an APP for players/travelers to shoot the front vehicle (by taking a picture) which the player particularly dislikes its abnormal behavior or irregular movement.

Optimization of Urban Traffic in City Network
Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies, 2020The urban traffic in city areas leads to serious problems with traffic jams, air and noise pollution, social problems, etc. A solution for improving the urban traffic is proposed. A real distribution problem is formalized by mixed integer-linear programming problem. Instead of specialized software tools for optimization, open software available for any

We propose a simple cellular automaton to simulate city traffic. Vehicles on road are treated as particles hopping on a lattice. In the morning rush hours, downtown parking lots are taken as the sinks for vehicles moving from suburban; in the afternoon rush hours, the parking lots become the sources for vehicles moving out of town.

This paper presents STAR-CITY, a system supporting semantic traffic analytics and reasoning for city. STAR-CITY, which integrates (human and machine-based) sensor data using variety of formats, velocities and volumes, has been designed to provide insight on historical and real-time traffic conditions, all supporting efficient urban planning. Our system
