GRAPH TRANSFORMATION RULES FOR IFC-TO-CITYGML ATTRIBUTE CONVERSION [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2019
In model transformation, the population of attributes on the target side constitutes the last step of the conversion process that carries over that part of the input which is often perceived as the most valuable actual information.

Towards building information modelling for existing structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The transformation of cities from the industrial age (unsustainable) to the knowledge age (sustainable) is essentially a ‘whole life cycle’ process consisting of; planning, development, operation, reuse and renewal.

3D As‐Built Environments in Extended Reality Applications: A Systematic Review

open access: yesThe Photogrammetric Record, Volume 41, Issue 194, April/June 2026.
This systematic review identifies BIM and game engines as the primary tools for integrating 3D as‐built environments into XR. While multi‐sensor fusion and multimodal interaction enhance immersion, persistent challenges like manual modeling and bandwidth limitations continue to hinder full ecosystem maturation.

Open data‐based urban models: An assessment for Canadian cities

open access: yesCanadian Geographies / Géographies canadiennes, Volume 70, Issue 2, Summer / été 2026.
Abstract Digital urban models are a rapidly advancing area of study in urban design and policymaking. Many cities have adopted this technology, yielding promising results in developing localized models. However, there are only a limited number of recent Canadian examples, partly due to the high costs of model construction and maintenance.

Techniques for improved CityGML models

open access: yesGraphical Models, 2019
Abstract This paper deals with some techniques that can be used to improve quality and geometric consistency of data driven 3D city models. It focuses on two practical tasks with respect to roof polygons: finding better edges and planarization. To increase the quality of edges, models are merged with true orthophotos and cadastral data.

4D spatial–temporal information infrastructure for digital twin environments using Spatial IDs

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 30, Page 6184-6200, 19 December 2025.
Abstract Digital twin technologies are gaining global attention as foundational components for data‐driven infrastructure management and urban simulation. However, significant challenges remain in integrating and utilizing geospatial datasets, including inconsistencies in spatial referencing methods, the absence of semantic object identification, and ...

Integrating 3D city data through knowledge graphs

open access: yesGeo-spatial Information Science
CityGML is a widely adopted standard for representing and exchanging 3D city models. The representation of semantic and topological properties in CityGML makes it possible to query such 3D city data for analysis in various applications. Nevertheless, the

Integrated data model for bridges with 3D geometry and maintenance information

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 27, Page 4994-5009, 14 November 2025.
Abstract The Japanese government has been promoting construction information modeling initiatives, following the example of building information modeling, which has been widely adopted in the construction sector of Western countries. However, progress in preparing and utilizing 3D data for existing structures, which are primarily subject to maintenance

ADAPTATION TO FLOODING EVENTS THROUGH VULNERABILITY MAPPING IN HISTORIC URBAN AREAS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Historic urban areas are complex and inter-reliant systems, vulnerable to natural hazards. Over the recent years, the increase frequency in extreme precipitation events and sea-level rise, have impacted on a large number of historic areas, growing ...
