Solar Heating Enhanced Selective Recovery of Metal Ions Through Flowing Electrodes Enabled by Hybrid Carbon Nanostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new electrochemical system based on a microporous hybrid of carbon nanoplatelets and nanotubes to selectively capture Ni2+ from wastewater is constructed. The system temperature rises rapidly when irradiated with sunlight, which enhances the Ni2+ removal rate by 250% and the selectivity by 53%, and the energy consumption is also reduced by 51 ...

“Guardian of Civil Rights … Medieval Relic”: The Civil Jury in Canada [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Bogart offers some explanations of why Canadian civil juries exist only at the margins by examining the availability of civil juries, empirical evidence regarding their use and cost in Ontario Canada and academic and policy debates concerning their ...

Complicating the rhetoric: How racial construction confounds market-based reformers’ civil rights invocations

open access: yesEducation Policy Analysis Archives, 2016
Reformers today maintain the use of civil rights rhetoric when advocating for policies that address educational inequity. While continuing the legacy of earlier civil rights activists, the leaders invoking this rhetoric and the educational platforms they

Self‐Reconstruction of Dual‐Morphology Copper‐Iron Selenides for Cost‐Effective Oxygen Evolution Toward Industrial Alkaline Water Splitting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Departing from conventional Ni/Co‐based catalysts, this work presents a Ni/Co‐free CuFe–Se/CFF electrocatalyst with nanoblock–nanorod morphology. It delivers 1000 mA cm−2 at 330 mV overpotential and 620 h stability for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER).

Civil Rights in the New Decade: The Geography of Opportunity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
It is truly an honor and a privilege to have been invited to return to my home state of Alabama to talk about the civil rights agenda in the new decade. Lest you think that I lack the appropriate credentials to speak on this issue, I will tell you that I

Broadband, Flexible, Skin‐Compatible Carbon Dots/Graphene Photodetectors for Wearable Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Broadband, flexible photodetectors integrating nitrogen‐rich carbon dots with single‐layer graphene on plastic substrates are demonstrated. A biocompatible chitosan–glycerol electrolyte enables efficient low‐voltage gating and on‐skin operation. The devices exhibit ultraviolet‐to‐near‐infrared response, mechanical robustness under bending, and verified

Bioinspired Polypeptide Dendrimer‐Modified Thin‐Film Composite Membranes for Selective Lithium‐Magnesium Separation with DFT Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We fabricated a biomimetic dendrimer‐modified thin‐film nanocomposite membrane with a coordination‐assisted ion‐selective interface. pH‐responsive polypeptide sites preferentially bind Mg2+ and promote Li+ permeation, as predicted by density functional theory calculations of metal‐ligand interactions.

Reflections on Sexual Liberty and Equality: Through Seneca Falls and Selma and Stonewall [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This Essay uses the opportunity to examine Roe v. Wade forty years after it was decided and Lawrence v. Texas ten years after it was decided as a platform from which to analyze the status of the civil rights paradigm in American law.
