A two-stage model of the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process and the fuzzy synthetic evaluation technique to prioritize sustainable sanitation services under uncertainty

open access: yesScientific Reports
In the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which strive to ensure comprehensive access to fundamental water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services, it is extremely imperative to prioritize communities in need and still disadvantaged ...

Applicability and Limitations of 3D Printing for Civil Structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Three Dimensional Printing (3DP) is a manufacturing process that builds layers to create a three-dimensional solid object from a digital model. It allows for mass customization and complex shapes that cannot be produced in other ways, eliminates the need

Ionic Precursors Transformed Into Vinyl Acetate Synthesis Catalyst via Reaction‐Driven Restructuring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that a simple physical mixture of Pd and Au ionic precursors, KOAc promoter, and SiO2 support can transform into a highly active vinyl acetate synthesis catalyst through reaction‐driven restructuring. The results highlight reaction‐induced restructuring as an innovative and sustainable catalyst design strategy.

Spatially Regulated Lithium Plating via Li2O‐Rich Interphase Enables Durable Fast‐Charging Hybrid Lithium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A Li2O‐rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is engineered on graphite through a propylene carbonate‐based electrolyte to spatially regulate Li plating. The homogeneous interphase lowers Li nucleation barriers, promotes conformal Li deposition around graphite particles, and suppresses dendritic accumulation, enabling durable hybrid Li‐ion/Li‐metal ...

Adaptive Backstepping Control with Time-Delay Compensation for MR-Damper-Based Vehicle Seat Suspension

open access: yesActuators
Long-term vibrations endanger driver health and affect ride performance. Semi-active seat suspension systems equipped with magnetorheological (MR) dampers can effectively reduce vibrations transmitted to drivers, exhibiting excellent potential for ...

Predicting rainfall response to climate change and uncertainty analysis: Introducing a novel downscaling CMIP6 models technique based on the stacking ensemble machine learning

open access: yesJournal of Water and Climate Change, 2023
This study proposes a novel downscaling technique based on stacking ensemble machine learning (SEML) to predict rainfall under climate change. The SEML consists of two levels.

Coordinated Architectural and Chemical Reinforcement in the Crushing Mandible of a Soldier Termite

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The crushing mandible of a soldier termite withstands substantial biting loads despite lacking mineral. Its cuticle is partitioned: convex teeth pair hardness and zinc enrichment with aligned chitin fibers for contact durability, while stiffer concave regions between teeth carry bending loads.

Balancing Hydrophobicity and Hydrophilicity: Dual Filler‐Engineered Proton Exchange Membranes for Durable, High‐Power Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polarity‐matched Zr–MOFs program Nafion's nanoscale morphology during solution casting. Hydrophilic UiO‐66 preserves hydrated pathways, while hydrophobic UiO‐67 increases the proton hopping sites by densifying ionic clusters. Combining both fillers yields a membrane that delivers 176 mS cm−1 conductivity, reaches 1.46 W cm−2 under 200 kPa, and triples ...
