Stability and bioavailability of vitamin C-glucose in Clarias hybrid catfish (Clarias gariepinus X Clarias macrocephalus)

Aquaculture, 1997
A stable form of vitamin C, ascorbate-glucose, was tested for stability, bioavailability, safety and efficacy in Clarias hybrid catfish. Six test diets containing 0 and 100 mg L-ascorbic acid (ASA) and 40, 60, 80 and 100 mg ascorbate vitamin C-glucose (AAG) per kg of diet were fed to fingerling catfish. Weight gain, feed conversion and survival of fish

The ecology of the catfish Clarias gariepinus and Clarias ngamensis in the Shire Valley, Malawi

Journal of Zoology, 1978
The ecology of two commercially important catfish species, Clarias gariepinus and C. ngamensis, was examined in the Elephant Marsh, southern Malawi. Abundance, distribution, and movements within the marsh system were studied. Growth rates were determined from rings on the vertebrae, with corroborative evidence from length frequency analyses and tagging

Allotriploidy increases sterility in the hybrid between Clarias macrocephalus and Clarias gariepinus

Aquaculture, 2004
Abstract Hybrids between female Thai walking catfish (Clarias macrocephalus) and male African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) are capable of reproducing, and this has led to introgression of genes from the paternal species into natural populations of the native C. macrocephalus.

Isolation of microsatellites in the bighead catfish, Clarias macrocephalus and cross-amplification in selected Clarias species

Molecular Biology Reports, 2014
The present study documents the isolation of eight polymorphic microsatellite markers from the bighead catfish, Clarias macrocephalus and cross-amplification in two other catfish species. The number of alleles per locus in C. macrocephalus ranged from 2 to 21.

Resistance of the African (Clarias gariepinus) and the Asian catfish (Clarias batrachus) to channel catfish virus

Aquaculture, 1988
Abstract Resistance of Dutch stocks of African (Clarias gariepinus) and Asian catfish (Clarias batrachus) to channel catfish virus (CCV) was tested. Replicate groups of catfish larvae were challenged by immersion in water containing 105, 104 and 103 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose endpoint)/ml of CCV.

Effects of parental strains and heterosis of the hybrid between Clarias macrocephalus and Clarias gariepinus

Aquaculture, 2014
The hybrid between Clarias macrocephalus female × C. gariepinus male has been cultured in Thailand for more than 20 years, but the effects of parental strains have not been studied. In the present study, differences among three strains each of C. macrocephalus and C. gariepinus were shown by the analyses of five microsatellite loci (FST = 0.174 ± 0.037)

Effect of dietary protein level on growth, survival, feed utilisation and body composition of hybrid Clarias catfish (Clarias batrachus × Clarias gariepinus)

Animal Feed Science and Technology, 2003
Abstract A feeding trial was conducted to study the effect of iso-energetic diets containing 250 (D 1 ), 300 (D 2 ), 350 (D 3 ) and 400 g (D 4 ) crude protein (CP) kg −1 dry matter (DM), in hybrid post-larvae of Clarias batrachus ♀ × Clarias gariepinus ♂.
