Weaning time in Clarias gariepinus (Burchell) larvae
Aquaculture, 1989Abstract The present study attempts to assess for the African catfish, Clarias gariepinus (Burchell), the earliest possible weaning time from Artemia to crumbles of a commercial trout diet. At the onset of exogenous feeding, 24 aquaria were stocked with larvae, which were fed during varying periods with dried decapsulated cysts of Artemia ...

Stress in African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) following overland transportation
Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 2013Of the many stressors in aquaculture, transportation of fish has remained poorly studied. The objective of this study was therefore to assess the effects of a (simulated) commercial transportation on stress physiology of market-size African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). Catfish weighing approximately 1.25 kg were returned to the farm after 3 h of truck-

North African Catfish Clarias gariepinus (Burchell)
2017Fast expansion of aquaculture in China largely relies on the introduction and use of non-native species. However, the introduction and use of non-native species may have negative impacts on local ecosystems and societies. Clarias gariepinus has been widely farmed in China after introduced in 1980 from Africa.

Stripping male Clarias gariepinus of semen
Aquaculture, 1985Abstract Male Clarias gariepinus (Burchell) can be stripped and eggs successfully fertilized one day after hypophyzation. The survival rate of fertilized eggs is, however, lower than when macerated testes are used to fertilize eggs. It was also found that the survival rate was increased to more than 70% if two males were stripped over eggs.

Male-specific DNA markers from African catfish (Clarias gariepinus)
Genetica, 2000We searched for sex-specific DNA sequences in the male and female genomes of African catfish, Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822) by comparative random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) assays performed on pooled DNA samples. Two sex-linked RAPD markers were identified from the male DNA pool and confirmed on individual samples, showing good agreement ...
