Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

The Development of Empirical Equations Estimation of Pan Evaporation Coefficient in the Fasa Region

open access: yesعلوم آب و خاک, 2023
Class A pan evaporation method as one of the most common methods for reference evapotranspiration (ET0) estimation has been widely used in the world due to its simplicity, relatively low cost, and ability to estimate daily ET.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Comment on “Transport of substantial stratospheric ozone to the surface by a dying typhoon and shallow convection” by Chen et al. (2022) [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics
Chen et al. (2022) analyzed the event of rapid nocturnal O3 enhancement (NOE) observed on 31 July 2021 at the surface level in the North China Plain and proposed transport of substantial stratosphere ozone to the surface by Typhoon In-fa followed by ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

A modification of the 10d superparticle action inspired by the Gupta-Bleuler quantization scheme method

open access: yes, 1998
We reconsider the issue of the existence of a complex structure in the Gupta-Bleuler quantization scheme. We prove an existence theorem for the complex structure associated with the $d=10$ Casalbuoni-Brink-Schwarz superparticle, based on an explicitly ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Modelling Evaporation and Evapotranspiration under Temperature Change in Malaysia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Temperature change has a direct effect on hydrology through its link with evapotranspiration. The potential impact of temperature change on the evapotranspiration is assessed; using a modelling approach based on a few physical weather measurements ...
