Fault prediction and the discriminative powers of connectivity-based object-oriented class cohesion metrics

Information and Software Technology, 2012
Context: Several metrics have been proposed to measure the extent to which class members are related. Connectivity-based class cohesion metrics measure the degree of connectivity among the class members. Objective: We propose a new class cohesion metric that has higher discriminative power than any of the existing cohesion metrics.

Towards a Valid Metric for Class Cohesion at Design Level

2011 Second International Conference on Emerging Applications of Information Technology, 2011
In object oriented paradigm, cohesion of a class refers to the degree to which members of the class are interrelated. Design level class cohesion metrics are based on the assumption that if all the methods of a class have access to similar parameter types then they all process closely related information.

Sensitivity and Monotonicity in Class Cohesion Metrics

Proceedings of the 12th Innovations in Software Engineering Conference (formerly known as India Software Engineering Conference), 2019
Cohesion metrics have been explored widely in the literature for procedural programs and subsequently for object oriented programs. However, as it is commonly found with metrics based approaches, most attempts have been shown to have suffered from some or the other flaws.

Metrics for class cohesion and similarity between methods

Proceedings of the 44th annual Southeast regional conference, 2006
Class cohesion is one of the desirable properties in object oriented designs. But, designers and managers need a good metric for this property to help them evaluate, compare and choose among various possible solutions to a given problem. In this paper, we will present a new metric for class cohesion based on similarity between the methods of a class ...

The Impact of Constructors on the Validity of Class Cohesion Metrics

2020 IEEE International Conference on Software Architecture Companion (ICSA-C), 2020
Class cohesion is a measure of the degree to which a class’s inner elements, like methods and attributes, are bound or related to one another. There have been over thirty different formulas proposed in order to calculate the metric. None of them are explicitly designed to deal with constructors in any different way than with regular methods—they simply

New Class Cohesion Metric: An Empirical View

International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Engineering, 2014
Cohesion is an Object-Oriented (OO) software design property that helps for the measuring of degree of interdependency or connectivity within subsystems of a system. Numerous class cohesion metrics can be found in the literature. Which metric is best suited for a given situation is always a critical question.

An object-oriented high-level design-based class cohesion metric

Information and Software Technology, 2010
Context: Class cohesion is an important object-oriented software quality attribute. Assessing class cohesion during the object-oriented design phase is one important way to obtain more comprehensible and maintainable software. In practice, assessing and controlling cohesion in large systems implies measuring it automatically.

Defining and Validating a Client-Based Cohesion Metric for Object-Oriented Classes

2017 IEEE 41st Annual Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC), 2017
Cohesion of a software module broadly refers to the relatedness of the elements of the module. A highly cohesive module has elements that all contribute to a single common purpose. Such modules are believed to be more understandable and maintainable. Most existing object-oriented class cohesion metrics measure the cohesion of a class based on internal ...

A Precise Method-Method Interaction-Based Cohesion Metric for Object-Oriented Classes

ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology, 2012
The building of highly cohesive classes is an important objective in object-oriented design. Class cohesion refers to the relatedness of the class members, and it indicates one important aspect of the class design quality. A meaningful class cohesion metric helps object-oriented software developers detect class design weaknesses and refactor classes ...

Theoretical Validation of New Class Cohesion Metric Against Briand Properties

2014
Class cohesion is an object-oriented software quality attribute and refers to the extent to which the members of a class are related. Software developers use class cohesion measures to assess the quality of their products and to guide the restructuring of poorly designed classes.
