The ‘polar’ model of class relationships is only a simplified way of describing elements of those phenomena which actually occur as complex class structures. In naming that relationship antagonistic, we may disregard its psychological aspects, since we are concerned neither with the psychological antagonism of individuals nor with the structure of ...

Class Dominance or Fracturing? Sources of Broad Interest in Lobbying by Fortune 500 Corporations
Sociological perspectives, 2020Are large corporations able to transcend individual self-interest in favor of a broad class interest, as suggested by class dominance theorists? Or, has the corporate elite become fractured?

LayerCAM: Exploring Hierarchical Class Activation Maps for Localization
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2021The class activation maps are generated from the final convolutional layer of CNN. They can highlight discriminative object regions for the class of interest. These discovered object regions have been widely used for weakly-supervised tasks. However, due

Imbalanced class distribution is an inherent problem in many real-world classification tasks where the minority class is the class of interest. Many conventional statistical and machine learning classification algorithms are subject to frequency bias ...

Why are US labor unions so weak? Union decline has had important consequences for politics, inequality, and social policy. Common explanations cite employment shifts, public opinion, labor laws, and differences in working class culture and organization. But comparing the United States with Canada challenges those explanations.

Interesting Classes of Surfaces
1999In this chapter, we will introduce some classes of surfaces that are probably not very well described in the literature. Among them are the spiral and the so-called “helispiral” surfaces that are common in nature. We will present some approximations to horns of antelopes and shells.
