Mapping class groups of h-cobordant manifolds

open access: yesForum of Mathematics, Sigma
We prove that the mapping class group is not an h-cobordism invariant of high-dimensional manifolds by exhibiting h-cobordant manifolds whose mapping class groups have different cardinalities.

Analysis of fourth class plane mechanisms with structural groups of links of the second order [PDF]

open access: yesTrudy Odesskogo Politehničeskogo Universiteta, 2018
The use of complex plane mechanisms in processing equipment of consumer industryis increasing. The absence of a general method of kinematic research of the fourth and higher class mechanisms allows us to accentuate the ...

Implementing the flipped classroom model in mathematics class teaching

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Education, 2023
The aim with this research was to examine how the implementation of the flipped classroom model (FCM) impacted the quality and durability of 4th grade students’ knowledge in the field of measuring and measures when compared to traditional teaching (TT ...

Cores of hyperbolic 3-manifolds and limits of Kleinian groups II [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Troels Jørgensen conjectured that the algebraic and geometric limits of an algebraically convergent sequence of isomorphic Kleinian groups agree if there are no new parabolics in the algebraic limit.

Carcinomas and Carcinoid Tumors of the Lungs and Bronchi in Children and Adolescents: The EXPeRT Recommendations

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Primary lung carcinomas and bronchial carcinoid tumors (BC) are very rare malignancies in childhood. While typical BC and mucoepidermoid carcinomas are mostly low‐grade, localized tumors with a more favorable prognosis than in adults, necessitating avoidance of overtreatment, adenocarcinomas of the lung are often diagnosed at advanced disease ...

Homological stability of spin mapping class groups and quadratic symplectic groups

open access: yesForum of Mathematics, Sigma
We study the homological stability of spin mapping class groups of surfaces and of quadratic symplectic groups using cellular $E_2$ -algebras. We get improvements in their stability results, which for the spin mapping class groups we show to be ...

European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline and EXPeRT Recommendations for the Diagnosis and Management of Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms in Children and Adolescents

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (GEP‐NENs) are extremely rare and clinically heterogeneous. Management has largely been extrapolated from adult practice. This European Standard Clinical Practice Guideline (ESCP), developed by the EXPeRT network in collaboration with adult NEN experts, provides (adult) evidence ...

Non-nilpotent groups with three conjugacy class of non-normal subgroups [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Group Theory, 2014
For a finite group $G$ let $nu(G)$ denote the number of conjugacy classes of non-normal subgroups of $G$. The aim of this paper is to classify all the non-nilpotent groups with $nu(G)=3$.

On residual finiteness of monoids, their Schützenberger groups and associated actions

open access: yes, 2014
RG was supported by an EPSRC Postdoctoral Fellowship EP/E043194/1 held at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. In this paper we discuss connections between the following properties: (RFM) residual finiteness of a monoid M ; (RFSG) residual finiteness ...

Social class structure and identity in later life [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The purpose of this article is to discuss the elusive character of social class in ageing studies. Whilst for many gerontologists social class no longer represents a salient marker of social difference in later life, critical gerontologists continue to ...
