Contextual completeness and a classification scheme for theories [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We discuss the role of propositions, truth, context and observers in scientific theories. We introduce the concept of generalized proposition and use it to define an algorithm for the classification of any scientific theory. The algorithm assigns a number 0, 1, 2 or 3 to a given theory, thereby classifying it as of metaphysical, mathematical, classical

Army of Ravens

open access: yesInternational Journal of Critical Diversity Studies, 2018
Negritude is one of the most controversial and misunderstood movements, starting with Jean-Paul Sartre's misguided discussion of the significance of Negritude in Black Orpheus.

Harnessing Photocycloreversion for Dimer Construction and Photoactivation: From Molecule to Aggregate

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
State‐dependent luminescence is achieved by utilizing the photocycloreversion of a series of phenanthrene cycloadducts and their parent phenanthrene molecules, which includes freely emissive monomer and quenched excimer in solution, as well as constrained emissive monomer and nonclassical emissive excimer in aggregate.

Naming the largest number: Exploring the boundary between mathematics and the philosophy of mathematics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
What is the largest number accessible to the human imagination? The question is neither entirely mathematical nor entirely philosophical. Mathematical formulations of the problem fall into two classes: those that fail to fully capture the spirit of the problem, and those that turn it back into a philosophical problem.

Advances in 3D and 4D Printing of Soft Robotics and Their Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article summarizes the development of 3D‐printed soft robotics in the recent decade. The article discusses the printing capabilities of different additive manufacturing technologies in terms of soft polymers, multimaterial printability, soft robotic printing, and 4D printing.

Generating Functions for Hurwitz-Hodge Integrals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
In this paper we describe explicit generating functions for a large class of Hurwitz-Hodge integrals. These are integrals of tautological classes on moduli spaces of admissible covers, a (stackily) smooth compactification of the Hurwitz schemes. Admissible covers and their tautological classes are interesting mathematical objects on their own, but ...

Anomalous Observers in the Subjectively Identical Reference Class [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Anthropic reasoning is a critical tool to understand probabilities, especially in a large universe or multiverse. According to anthropic reasoning, we should consider ourselves typical among members of a reference class that must include all subjectively indistinguishable observers.

Observables, Disassembled [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
This paper argues that non-self-adjoint operators can be observables. There are only four ways for this to occur: non-self-adjoint observables can either be normal operators, or be symmetric, or have a real spectrum, or have none of these three properties.
