Abstract We report on some conceptual changes in our present understanding of Quantum Field Theory and muse about possible consequences for the understanding of v > c signals.

On stability of renormalized classical electrodynamics
It is shown that the total energy of the static "field + particle" system, defined in the framework of classical, renormalized electrodynamics of particles and fields, depends in an unstable way upon the field boundary data. We add a missing element to the set of directly computable scenarios of light-matter-interaction within classical numerical Maxwell solvers, i.e., light scattering from hybrid systems of resonators and individual Fourier-limited emitters.
