A Comparison of Classical, Item Response, and Generalizability Theories of Measurement

Journal of Social Service Research, 1992
This article compares important concepts from Classical Measurement Theory, Item Response Theory, and Generalizability Theory. A brief, somewhat technical overview of each of these measurement theories is given. Important conceptual and technical similarities and differences between each of these theories are then noted.

The Traditional (Classical) Theory of Measurement: An Analytical Reading

Contemporary Studies Journal in Education and Psychology
This paper aimed to shed light on the Classical Test Theory (CTT), which is one of the simplest and oldest theories in psychological and educational measurement. It traces CTT's development from the early 20th century by pioneers like Charles Spearman, Galton, Lord, and Toffler.

Classical Test Theory Methods for Repeated-Measures N = 1 Research Designs

Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1988
Classical test theory methods are derived to allow statistical evaluation of all KT(KT- 1)/2 unique, non-trivial difference scores that occur by comparing one or more variables (K) at two or more testings (1) for a single individual (or object of measurement). Future research needs are discussed.

Breakdown of Classical Lp Theory on Non-Doubling Radon Measure Spaces

Classical Lp theory, a cornerstone of harmonic analysis, has been immensely successful in establishing the boundedness of fundamental operators such as maximal functions and singular integrals in Euclidean spaces and on measure spaces satisfying the doubling condition.
