Chirality induced spin selectivity: A classical spin-off

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2023
We demonstrate that angular momentum selectivity of particles traversing chiral environments is not limited to the quantum regime and can be realized in classical scenarios also. In our classical variant, the electron spin, which is central to the quantum chirality induced spin selectivity (CISS) effect, is replaced by the self-rotation of a finite ...

Classical spin theory

Soviet Physics Journal, 1980
Tensor and vector equations of motion of a classical charged particle with spin have been derived within the framework of the special theory of relativity on the basis of Frenkel's tensor. The anomalous magnetic moment of the particle is considered in a natural manner in deriving the equations.

Classically spinning and isospinning solitons

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2012
We investigate classically spinning topological solitons in (2 + 1)- and (3 + 1)-dimensional models; more explicitely spinning sigma model solitons in 2 + 1 dimensions and Skyrme solitons in 2 + 1 and 3 + 1 dimensions. For example, such types of solitons can be used to describe quasiparticle excitations in ferromagnetic quantum Hall systems or to model

Classically Spinning Skyrmions

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011
Skyrmions arise as topological soliton solutions in the Skyrme model which has been shown to be a low energy effective theory of QCD in the large NC limit. If quantized suitably, they can be used to describe structure and properties of nucleons and nuclei.

Classical spin systems

2017
Abstract The thermodynamic properties of spin systems are evaluated with Monte Carlo methods. A review of classical thermodynamics is followed by a discussion of critical exponents. The Monte Carlo method is then applied to the two-dimensional Ising model with the goal of determining the phase diagram for magnetization.

Classical electrodynamics of spinning particles

Canadian Journal of Physics, 1984
We consider particles with mass, charge, intrinsic magnetic and electric dipole moments, and intrinsic angular momentum in interaction with a classical electromagnetic field. From this action we derive the equations of motion of the position and intrinsic angular momentum of the particle including the radiation reaction, the wave equations of the ...

Classical spin and its quantization

Physical Review D, 1985
We develop a new formulation of the quantum mechanics of a relativistic fermion based on the existence of an extended set of underlying classical coordinates. We enlarge the classical theory to a superspace built out of ordinary space-time coordinates and a set of Grassmann coordinates which transform like Majorana spinors and describe a classical spin.

Dynamics of classical spins on a lattice: Spin diffusion

Physical Review B, 1992
The transport of magnetization and of spin-spin energy are calculated numerically for classical gyromagnets, coupled by truncated dipole-dipole and nearest-neighbor exchange interactions, on sc, bcc, and fcc cubic lattices. For the exchange case the results agree with previous theory, and also agree with experiments on $^{3}\mathrm{He}$ for diffusion ...
