Effective action and semiclassical limit of spin foam models
We define an effective action for spin foam models of quantum gravity by adapting the background field method from quantum field theory. We show that the Regge action is the leading term in the semi-classical expansion of the spin foam effective action ...

Classical aspects of quantum spin chains
We suggest a new variational approach for quantum spin chains, based on the stochastic behavior of the quantization axes, which describes a chain in terms of a classical and a quantum contribution to the free energy. For an easy-plane ferromagnetic chain with the external field in the plane it reveals that the nonlinear excitations are predominantly ...

Quantum Dynamics in Classical Spin Baths
A formalism for studying the dynamics of quantum systems embedded in classical spin baths is introduced. The theory is based on generalized antisymmetric brackets and predicts the presence of open-path off-diagonal geometric phases in the evolution of ...

Nonlinear semi-classical 3D quantum spin
In an effort to provide an alternative method to represent a quantum spin, a precise 3D nonlinear dynamics method is used. A two-sided torque function is created to mimic the unique behavior of the quantum spin. A full 3D representation of the magnetic field of a Stern-Gerlach device was used as in the original experiment.

Quantum-to-classical crossover in the spin glass dynamics of cavity QED simulators
By solving the quench dynamics of a frustrated many-body spin-boson problem, we investigate the role of spin size on the dynamical formation of spin-glass order. In particular, we observe that quantum and classical spin glasses exhibit markedly different

The fuzzy 4-hyperboloid Hn4 and higher-spin in Yang–Mills matrix models
We consider the SO(4,1)-covariant fuzzy hyperboloid Hn4 as a solution of Yang–Mills matrix models, and study the resulting higher-spin gauge theory. The degrees of freedom can be identified with functions on classical H4 taking values in a higher-spin ...

Quantum Nature of Edge Magnetism in Graphene
It is argued that the subtle crossover from decoherence-dominated classical magnetism to fluctuation-dominated quantum magnetism is experimentally accessible in graphene nanoribbons.

Grassmann techniques applied to classical spin systems
We review problems involving the use of Grassmann techniques in the field of classical spin systems in two dimensions. These techniques are useful to perform exact correspondences between classical spin Hamiltonians and field-theory fermionic actions ...
