Ergodic hypothesis in classical statistical mechanics

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Ensino de Física
An updated discussion on physical and mathematical aspects of the ergodic hypothesis in classical equilibrium statistical mechanics is presented. Then a practical attitude for the justification of the microcanonical ensemble is indicated.

The Gibbs Paradox

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
The Gibbs Paradox is essentially a set of open questions as to how sameness of gases or fluids (or masses, more generally) are to be treated in thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.

Thermodynamics of the System of Distinguishable Particles

open access: yesEntropy, 2009
The issue of the thermodynamics of a system of distinguishable particles is discussed in this paper. In constructing the statistical mechanics of distinguishable particles from the definition of Boltzmann entropy, it is found that the entropy is not ...

Validation of a coupled, multiple response assessment for upper-division thermal physics

open access: yesPhysical Review Physics Education Research, 2022
Currently there are no assessment instruments available for upper-division thermal physics, though several introductory assessments are currently available.

Particle Indistinguishability Symmetry within a Field Theory. Entropic Effects

open access: yesEntropy, 2009
In this paper, we briefly discuss a field theory approach of classical statistical mechanics. We show how an essentially entropic functional accounts for fundamental symmetries related to quantum mechanical properties which hold out in the classical ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

On the statistical mechanics of an adiabatic ensemble

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2004
Different descriptions of an adiabatic process based on statistical thermodynamics and statistical mechanics are discussed. Equality of the so-called adiabatic and isolated susceptibilities and its generalization as well as adiabatic invariants are ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.
