Matrices in Classical Statistical Mechanics

1966
The mathematics required for formulating the principles of classical statistical mechanics does not include matrices or abstract vectors. These concepts are, however, used in applications of the general theory to specific objects. An example is considered in this chapter; it concerns the thermal properties of mixed crystals.

Equilibrium Classical Statistical Mechanics

1984
Statistical mechanics deals, as a matter of fact, with probabilistic treatment of physical systems considered from the point of view of their mechanical properties. The denomination ‘Probabilistic Mechanics’ would, of course, be more pertinent to this discipline.

Statistical mechanics of Yang-Mills classical mechanics

Physical Review C, 2005
Statistical mechanics (SM) of Yang-Mills classical mechanics is studied by using a toy model that resembles chaotic quartic oscillators. This nonlinear system attains the thermodynamic equilibrium not by collisions, which is generally assumed in SM, but by chaotic dynamics.

The Role of Statistical Mechanics in Classical Physics

The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, 1977
There exists a class {(} of systems, any member Y of which can be regarded on the one hand as a mechanical system (M) and on the other as a thermodynamic system Y (T). The mechanical system ~(M) is characterised by its classical or quantum mechanical state which evolves with time according to the appropriate differential equation (Hamilton's equation ...
