Adjunctive Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in Refractory Adult‐Onset Still's Disease Complicated by Secondary Macrophage Activation Syndrome: A Single‐Center Experience

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Adult‐onset Still's disease (AOSD) complicated by macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) carries substantial mortality. The role of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) remains uncertain. Methods We retrospectively analyzed patients with AOSD‐MAS treated with TPE at a single‐center.

A New Thermodynamics from Nuclei to Stars

open access: yesEntropy, 2004
: Equilibrium statistics of Hamiltonian systems is correctly described by the microcanonical ensemble. Classically this is the manifold of all points in the N-body phase space with the given total energy.

Statistics on Lefschetz thimbles: Bell/Leggett-Garg inequalities and the classical-statistical approximation

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
Inspired by Lefschetz thimble theory, we treat Quantum Field Theory as a statistical theory with a complex Probability Distribution Function (PDF). Such complex-valued PDFs permit the violation of Bell-type inequalities, which cannot be violated by a ...

Forecasting the concentration of NO2 using statistical and machine learning methods: A case study in the UAE

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is the most active pollutant gas emitted in the industrial era and is highly correlated with human activities. Tracking NO2 emissions and predicting their concentrations represent important steps toward controlling pollution and ...

Grid superfluid turbulence and intermittency at very low temperature [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Low-temperature grid generated turbulence is investigated by using numerical simulations of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation. The statistics of regularized velocity increments are studied. Increments of the incompressible velocity are found to be skewed for

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Uncertainty-driven generation of neutrosophic random variates from the Weibull distribution

open access: yesJournal of Big Data, 2023
Objective This paper aims to introduce an algorithm designed for generating random variates in situations characterized by uncertainty. Method The paper outlines the development of two distinct algorithms for producing both minimum and maximum ...

Direct observation of non-classical photon statistics in parametric downconversion

open access: yes, 2003
We employ a high quantum efficiency photon number counter to determine the photon number distribution of the output field from a parametric downconverter.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The run test for two samples in the presence of uncertainty

open access: yesJournal of Big Data, 2023
The run test, which examines whether two samples selected from the same population are random, has been employed. However, the current run test for two samples is based on the assumption of certainty, which is not always valid in practical scenarios ...
