A stochastic differential equation framework for gravity wave parametrisation with testing in an idealised setting

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Parametrisations of unresolved gravity waves used in general circulation models can be made more computationally efficient by introducing a stochastic component to the forcing. Additionally, it is believed that intermittency associated with a stochastic parametrisation could be tuned to resemble the intermittency of observed gravity wave sources to ...

Sensitivities of warm conveyor belt ascent, associated precipitation characteristics and large‐scale flow pattern: Insights from a perturbed parameter ensemble

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Cloud microphysical processes and low‐level moisture availability affect the ascent of the warm conveyor belt (WCB) airstream. We quantify the relative influence of perturbations to uncertain cloud microphysical model parameters and environmental conditions in the lower troposphere on WCB ascent, as well as on associated precipitation characteristics ...

A conservative numerical scheme for the multilayer shallow‐water equations on unstructured meshes

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
An energy‐conserving scheme is derived for the multilayer shallow water model, making use of the direct connection between energy conservation and the skew symmetry of the Poisson bracket for the model. A new mechanism is proposed to prevent layer interface outcropping.

Reproducing the Effects of Quantum Deformation in the Undeformed Jaynes‐Cummings Model

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, EarlyView.
The inverse problem approach, where atomic probabilities are modulated according to a time‐dependent coupling, is studied for the Jaynes‐Cummings (JC) model. In particular, emphasis is placed on how to reproduce the effects of quantum deformation in a non‐deformed JC model.

Multi‐Photon Fock State Generation via Selective Single Photon Subtraction in a Cascaded Waveguide QED System

open access: yesAdvanced Quantum Technologies, EarlyView.
This work proposes a photon subtraction scheme, termed ′photon culling′, that enables the selective extraction of a single photon based on its arrival time relative to other photons. This scheme enables the generation of multi‐photon Fock states with high fidelity and modal purity, demonstrating significant potential for quantum metrology applications ...
