Dark Classics in Chemical Neuroscience: 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine.

open access: yesACS Chemical Neuroscience, 2018
Better known as "ecstasy", 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) is a small molecule that has played a prominent role in defining the ethos of today's teenagers and young adults, much like lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) did in the 1960s. Though MDMA

Classical and non-classical models of the cochlea [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997
In a “classical” model of the cochlea the response is controlled by a local parameter function, for instance, the BM impedance. In a non-classical model, the response is controlled by parameters that are distributed over space. In this note it is shown to which extent classical and non-classical models are equivalent.

Linked dimers of the AAA+ ATPase Msp1 reveal energetic demands and mechanistic plasticity for substrate extraction from lipid bilayers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

On closed-form optical solutions to the nonlinear model with the Kerr law nonlinearity

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2023
The main contribution of this study is the application of a newly-proposed method to the Ginzburg–Landau equation arising from the propagation of nonlinear waves to obtain new closed-form optical solutions to this equation.

Herodotus Use Of Prospective Sentences And The Story Of Rhampsinitus And The Thief In The Histories [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The Histories of Herodotus is analyzed in terms of performance rather than as a text to be read. Herodotus\u27 discourse appears composed of different types of sentences or groups of sentences, which can be classified in terms of their different ...

Photosynthesis under far‐red light—evolutionary adaptations and bioengineering of light‐harvesting complexes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.

Lump solution and lump-type solution to a class of water wave equation

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2023
In the field of nonlinear sciences, the theory of solitons has long been regarded as one of the most significant and effective areas of research. In this research field, there are many efficient techniques for solving partial differential equations.

Who Are Herodotus\u27 Persians? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In analyzing how Herodotus\u27 descriptions of foreign societies reflect Greek assumptions and prejudices, we have sometimes failed to recognize the extent to which he reports persuasive and historically valid information.

Classicality criteria

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Physics, 2002
We present two possible criteria quantifying the degree of classicality of an arbitrary (finite dimensional) dynamical system. The inputs for these criteria are the classical dynamical structure of the system together with the quantum and the classical data providing the two alternative descriptions of its initial time configuration.

The IQ‐compete assay for measuring mitochondrial protein import efficiencies in living yeast cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The efficiency of mitochondrial protein import depends on the properties of the newly synthesized precursor proteins. The Import and de‐Quenching Competition (IQ‐compete) assay is a novel method to monitor the import efficiency of different proteins by fluorescence in living yeast cells.
