A probabilistic model for the modified claus process

Chemical Engineering Communications, 2002
A model is proposed for simulation of an industrial Claus unit with a straight-through configuration and two catalytic reactors. Process design evaluation based on deterministic calculations does not take into account the uncertainties associated with the input variables.

Intermediate temperature electrochemical Claus process for sulphur recovery

Gas Separation & Purification, 1992
Abstract This investigation addresses an electrochemical Claus cell incorporating perovskite solid electrolytes and potentially H 2 S tolerant metal sulphide anode electrocatalysts for promoting H 2 S oxidation to sulphur and water. Cells possessed the general configuration: H 2 S, AB 2 S 4 (or WS 2 ) |doped ABO 3 | La 0.9 Sr 0.1 CoO 3 , O 2 , where

Corrosion Control in Sulphur Recovery Units – Claus Process

Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference, 2017
Abstract Today there are more than 100 Sulphur Recovery Units in the Middle East and many of them have been in operation for 10 years or longer. Corrosion can be one of the most challenging issues in these units due to the presence of hydrogen sulfide, sulphur dioxide, elemental sulphur and water.

Bioelectro-Claus processes using MFC technology: Influence of co-substrate

Bioresource Technology, 2015
This work is focused on the removal of sulphide from wastewater using a two chamber microbial fuel cell, seeded with activated sludge and operated in semi-continuous mode. Two co-substrates were used in order to provide the system for carbon and nutrient source: actual urban wastewater and synthetic wastewater.

Optimal operation of the cyclic claus process

2007
Abstract The dynamic analysis and optimization of the novel cyclic Claus process, a four-step, one-bed, vacuum swing adsorptive reactor (VSAR) is studied. The partial differential and algebraic equations describing the physical behavior of the system are stated in a dimensionless form.

ChemInform Abstract: An Electrochemical Claus Process for Sulfur Recovery.

ChemInform, 1990
AbstractThe electrochemical oxidation of H2S (produced in large amounts in technical processes such as the coal gasification/liquifaction or heavy oil desulfurization) to yield sulfur and water is achieved at 900 °C using fuel cells that contain a tungsten wire current collector coated with different electrocatalysts in the H2S anode compartment, a ...

Formation of Mercaptans and Organosulfur Species in Claus Process

Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference, 2017
Abstract The formation of mercaptans and organosulfur species in Claus process leads to a reduction in the sulfur recovery efficiency, and an increase in the cost of tail gas treatment. While process optimization can be used to minimize their production in plants, the existing models fail to predict their concentrations to a reasonable ...

The Claus process: teaching an old dog new tricks

Catalysis Today, 2003
Abstract The potential of integrating reaction with adsorption in a single piece of equipment to favourably displace chemical equilibria has attracted considerable attention in recent years. In contrast to the most such multifunctional reactor concepts investigated so far, the aim of our work is to study an industrially relevant chemical system with ...

Mixing of Reactants in Claus Process under Non-Reactive Conditions

7th International Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, 2009
The reactant mixing in Claus process is examined under non-reactive conditions in cross flow geometry. The different cases examined had constant momentum flux ratio between the non-reactive and reactive cases. The flow pattern as well as the mixing length has been investigated for the various configurations examined here.

An alternative to the claus process for treating hydrogen sulfide

Energy, 1987
Abstract The thermochemical decomposition of hydrogen sulfide by concentrated sunlight was investigated. Three commercial catalysts were used to improve the kinetics of the reaction. It was shown that a cobalt-molybdenum catalyst has the highest activity. A hydrogen yield of 19% was obtained at a reaction temperature of 770 °C and residence time of 0.
