Coupling of Rhythms in Prefrontal Cortex and Autonomic Nervous System in School‐Age Children

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, Volume 1555, Issue 1, January 2026.
Early childhood self‐regulation develops alongside, and is shaped by, the autonomic nervous system (ANS) and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC). Using wavelet transform coherence analysis, this study reveals that ANS–dlPFC coupling in children varies by context (rest versus stress), cardiac signal type (respiratory sinus arrhythmia versus heart ...

Pyoderma Gangrenosum as the First Manifestation of Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Gastrointestinal Medicine, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Approximately 50% of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) exhibit extraintestinal manifestations, among which skin and mucosal lesions are common. Primary Hyperparathyroidism From Concurrent Parathyroid Hyperplasia and Ectopic Parathyroid Adenoma: A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Endocrinology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), whether caused by an adenoma or hyperplasia, can be curative with parathyroidectomy. However, persistently elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) despite parathyroidectomy suggests multigland disease. We present a case of concurrent single‐gland parathyroid hyperplasia and an ectopic parathyroid adenoma in a 72‐year‐old ...

Osteitis Fibrosa Cystica: An Unusual Cause of Left‐Sided Chest Pain

open access: yesCase Reports in Nephrology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
We report a case of osteitis fibrosa cystica resulting from secondary hyperparathyroidism in a 21‐year‐old male patient with end‐stage renal disease. The patient presented with persistent, moderate chest pain localized to the left fifth and sixth ribs for eight months. A chest X‐ray revealed well‐defined, expansile lytic lesions in these ribs.
