1-Click Energy: Managing Corporate Demand for Clean Power [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Globally, more private businesses, especially Fortune 100 companies are generating their own electricity, investing in renewable energy facilities, and voluntarily purchasing renewable energy credits to cover their carbon footprints.

Assessing Altered Coating Adhesion on Plasma‐Deoxidized Surfaces Under Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment in modifying silicon and stainless steel surfaces to improve adhesion. Argon‐hydrogen plasma increases surface roughness and improves adhesion strength, whereas pure argon results in smoother surfaces and structural changes.

Photothermal Synergistic Hydrogen Production via a Fly‐Ash‐made Interfacial Vaporific System

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Employing UV–vis spectrum for hydrogen generation and vis‐IR spectrum to elevate reaction temperatures and induce phase transitions effectively enhances yield and purifies water, demonstrating a judicious strategy for solar energy utilization. This study

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.

Solar energy to meet the nation's energy needs [PDF]

open access: yes
Solar energy, being a non-depleting clean source of energy, is shown to be capable of providing energy in all the forms in which it is used today.

Disorder-induced density of states on the surface of a spherical topological insulator

open access: yes, 2016
We consider a topological insulator (TI) of spherical geometry and numerically investigate the influence of disorder on the density of surface states. To the clean Hamiltonian we add a surface disorder potential of the most general hermitian form, $V = V^

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...

Breaking Barriers to Renewable Energy Production in the North American Arctic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
As climate change continues to affect our lives, the communities at the northern extremes of our world have witnessed the changes most profoundly. In the Arctic, where climate change is melting permafrost and causing major shoreline erosion, remote ...

Dynamic Testing of Cold Gas Sprayed Bipolar Plates–Porous Transport Layer Coating System in Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 11, 3 June 2026.
Through direct application of porous transport layer (PTL) on the bipolar plate (BPP) with thermal spraying, the interfacial contact resistance is improved. With the cold gas sprayed BPP–PTL coating system, a proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cell with a cell voltage of Ucell = 1.9 V can be operated up to i = 2.5 A/cm2 in a dynamic mode ...
