Creep‐Induced Microstructural Evolution in an A2‐B2 Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A 27.3Ta‐27.3Mo‐27.3Ti‐8Cr‐10Al (at.%) refractory high‐entropy alloy with precipitation‐strengthened A2‐B2 microstructure was studied by creep tests at 1030°C, which demonstrate a transition in deformation mechanisms in the range of 100–150 MPa applied stress. This is associated with changes in dislocation–precipitate interactions. Relevant deformation

Towards a sustainable fishery and use of cleaner fish in salmonid aquaculture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Parasitic salmon lice cause great economic losses in the aquaculture of Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout. It also has a significant impact on wild populations of salmonids, particularly sea trout in areas with aquaculture activity.

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

Introductory studies on bacterial agents infecting cleaner fish [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Cleaner fish (wrasse and lumpsucker) are used extensively in Norwegian salmon farms for biocontrol of sea louse infestation, but cleaner fish health and welfare has only recently become a focus of attention.

Low Ectoparasite Loads and Interactions With Cleaner Fish Among Amphiprion Anemonefish

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries
Interactions between ectoparasites, reef fishes and cleaner species are well documented; however, anemonefishes (Amphiprioninae) have been largely overlooked in this context.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Triple Junctions as Dislocation‐Like Defects: The Role of Grain Boundary Crystallography Revealed by Experiment and Atomistic Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Grain boundary triple junctions are an essential ingredient of the microstructure of polycrystalline materials. In this study, a triple junction is observed using atomic‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy and characterized. Computer simulations reveal that the junction has a dislocation character that is determined by the joining ...

Evolutionary Cooperation: Male Cleaner Fish Aggression May Promote Female Cooperation

open access: yes, 2009
SummaryA new study has shown that mixed-sex pairs of cleaner fish provide a better — more cooperative — service than singletons despite pairs facing an apparent Prisoner's ...

Production of sounds by squirrelfish during symbiotic relationships with cleaner wrasses

open access: yesScientific Reports
Examples of symbiotic relationships often include cleaning mutualisms, typically involving interactions between cleaner fish and other fish, called the clients.
