The combined use of corticotomy and clear aligners: a case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
OBJECTIVE:   To describe an orthodontic treatment that combines an esthetic approach (clear aligners) with surgery (alveolar corticotomy).

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Comparative assessment of orthodontic clear aligner versus fixed appliance for anterior retraction: a finite element study

open access: yesBMC Oral Health
Background The aim of this study is to conduct a comparative evaluation of different designs of clear aligners and examine the disparities between clear aligners and fixed appliances.

Study of Damage and Microplastic Release in Clear Aligners Under Cyclic Loads

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
In this research work, the mechanical performance of a thermoformed clear dental aligner is studied. Its performance is evaluated under the cyclic compression test, which is designed to simulate the occlusal forces applied on the aligner during ...

Robust language pair-independent sub-tree alignment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Data-driven approaches to machine translation (MT) achieve state-of-the-art results. Many syntax-aware approaches, such as Example-Based MT and Data-Oriented Translation, make use of tree pairs aligned at sub-sentential level.

Plasmodium falciparum gametogenesis essential protein 1 (GEP1) is a transmission‐blocking target

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study shows Plasmodium falciparum GEP1 is vital for activating sexual stages of malarial parasites even independently of a mosquito factor. Knockout parasites completely fail gamete formation even when a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is added. Two single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (V241L and S263P) are found in 12%–20% of field samples.

Bootstrapping word alignment via word packing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We introduce a simple method to pack words for statistical word alignment. Our goal is to simplify the task of automatic word alignment by packing several consecutive words together when we believe they correspond to a single word in the opposite ...

Effective Approaches to Attention-based Neural Machine Translation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
An attentional mechanism has lately been used to improve neural machine translation (NMT) by selectively focusing on parts of the source sentence during translation.

Photosynthesis under far‐red light—evolutionary adaptations and bioengineering of light‐harvesting complexes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.

Expert consensus on the clinical strategies for orthodontic treatment with clear aligners

open access: yesInternational Journal of Oral Science
Clear aligner treatment is a novel technique in current orthodontic practice. Distinct from traditional fixed orthodontic appliances, clear aligners have different material features and biomechanical characteristics and treatment efficiencies, presenting
