In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

A MOSAIC of methods: Improving ortholog detection through integration of algorithmic diversity

open access: yes, 2014
Ortholog detection (OD) is a critical step for comparative genomic analysis of protein-coding sequences. In this paper, we begin with a comprehensive comparison of four popular, methodologically diverse OD methods: MultiParanoid, Blat, Multiz, and OMA ...

A Comparative Study on the Efficiency of Clear Aligners Versus Conventional Braces in Adult Orthodontic Patients

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Background: Orthodontic treatment in adults has gained popularity with the advent of clear aligners as an alternative to conventional braces. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 adult patients requiring orthodontic treatment were enrolled in this study

Cell density–dependent nuclear‐cytoplasmic shuttling of SETDB1 integrates with Hippo signaling to regulate YAP1‐mediated transcription

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...

Conditional Random Field Autoencoders for Unsupervised Structured Prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We introduce a framework for unsupervised learning of structured predictors with overlapping, global features. Each input's latent representation is predicted conditional on the observable data using a feature-rich conditional random field.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Assessment of Patient-Reported Outcomes in the Use of Clear Aligners Compared to Conventional Fixed Braces

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences
Introduction: This study aims to compare patient-reported outcomes (PROs) between clear aligners and conventional fixed braces. Orthodontic treatments not only focus on functional outcomes but also patient satisfaction, comfort, and aesthetics ...

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.
