Puzzle-like molecular assembly of non-flammable solid-state polymer electrolytes for safe and high-voltage lithium metal batteries

open access: yesNature Communications
Developing safe and high-voltage solid-state polymer electrolytes for high-specific-energy lithium metal batteries holds great promise. However, low ionic conductivity, limited Li+ transference number, narrow voltage window, and high flammability greatly

Crayfish shell biochar for methyl violet adsorption: Equilibrium and kinetic studies

open access: yesNext Sustainability
This work was aimed to establish the equilibrium and kinetics of methyl violet removal onto crayfish shell biochars. The biochars were prepared through pyrolysis at 500, 650 and 800 ℃ for 1.5 h.

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Recycling of carbon fibre composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A clear case for carbon fibre recovery and reuse exists on environmental grounds due to the high cost and energy use of virgin fibre production.

Tunable pseudogap Kondo effect and quantum phase transitions in Aharonov-Bohm interferometers

open access: yes, 2009
We study two quantum dots embedded in the arms of an Aharonov-Bohm ring threaded by a magnetic flux. The system can be described by an effective one-impurity Anderson model with an energy- and flux-dependent density of states.

Solar energy harvesting clear glass for building-integrated photovoltaics

open access: yes2014 11th Annual High Capacity Optical Networks and Emerging/Enabling Technologies (Photonics for Energy), 2014
We propose and demonstrate the concept of an energy-harvesting clear glass panel based on the use of all-inorganic luminophores embedded into a lamination layer in conjunction with low-emissivity coatings and CIS solar cells. Most of the visible solar radiation is transmitted through the laminated glass panel while UV radiation is down-converted and ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Atmospheric Water Sorption Kinetics in Powder and Monolithic Metal–Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces
Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely applied for adsorption applications owing to their high surface area and porosity. In this paper, the atmospheric water adsorption kinetics in a prototypical MOF with two forms, that is, powder and ...
