The axial cleavage fracture 1 Axial cleavage fracturing, a significant process in mining and geology

open access: closedEngineering Geology, 1965
Abstract The attention is called to the systematic occurrence of fracturing in brittle rock parallel to the major load axis at triaxial differential compressive loading. The axial fracture plane shows the features of the tensile brittle ( cleavage) fracture; this circumstance has led to the nomenclature “axial cleavage fracture”.

Comment on 40Ar/39Ar age constraints on low-grade metamorphism and cleavage development in the Transvaal Supergroup (central Kaapvaal craton, South Africa): implications for the tectonic setting of the Bushveld Igneous Complex (South African Journal of Geology, 109, 393 410), by Alexandre et al. (2006)

open access: closedSouth African Journal of Geology, 2007
Alexandre et al. (2006) recently presented the results of a detailed structural study of brittle-ductile deformation, which could, as they state, be seemingly coincident with regional low-grade metamorphism of the pre-2.15 Ga Transvaal Supergroup strata between the Vredefort impact structure of ~2.02 Ga age (Kamo et al. , 1996; Gibson et al.

Response to the Comment by Reimold et al. on 40Ar/39Ar age constraints on low-grade metamorphism and cleavage development in the Transvaal Supergroup (central Kaapvaal craton, South Africa): implications for the tectonic setting of the Bushveld Igneous Complex (South African Journal of Geology, 109, 393 410), by Alexandre et al. (2006)

open access: closedSouth African Journal of Geology, 2007
Reimold et al. ’s observations on Alexandre et al. (2006) concern the 40Ar/39Ar analytical data, their statistical treatment, and the suggested age interpretations, without commenting on the extensive and detailed structural data presented. Their criticisms can be divided into three categories: (a) not taking into account the recoil effects on the age ...

The Geology of a Portion of the Santa Monica Mountains with a Section on Rock Cleavage

open access: closed, 1931
A section of the Santa Monica Mountains lying in the eastern third of the Reseda Quadrangle and a portion of the western third of the Van Nuys Quadrangle comprises the geological mapping investigated by this report. The occurrence of a very thick section of pre-Jurassic metamorphic sediment interested the writer to make a study of the rock fracture ...
