Ontogenetic development of pallid sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus albus) and shovelnose sturgeon (Scaphirhynchus platorynchus) from hatch through yolk absorption

open access: yesEcology of Freshwater Fish, Volume 32, Issue 1, Page 209-231, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Sturgeons have a complex free‐embryo period extending from hatch to the initiation of exogenous feeding. Although available for some sturgeon species of the genus Acipenser, descriptions of the developmental stages of free embryos of the genus Scaphirhynchus are lacking.

Production of diverse brGDGTs by Acidobacterium Solibacter usitatus in response to temperature, pH, and O2 provides a culturing perspective on brGDGT proxies and biosynthesis

open access: yesGeobiology, Volume 21, Issue 1, Page 102-118, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (brGDGTs) are bacterial membrane lipids that are frequently employed as paleoenvironmental proxies because of the strong empirical correlations between their relative abundances and environmental temperature and pH.

Nanoscale structures formed in silicon cleavage studied with large-scale electronic structure alculations; surface reconstruction, step and bending [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 72, 075323 (2005), 2004
The 10-nm-scale structure in silicon cleavage is studied by the quantum mechanical calculations for large-scale electronic structure. The cleavage process on the order of 10 ps shows surface reconstruction and step formation. These processes are studied by analyzing electronic freedom and compared with STM experiments.

What cleaves? Is proteasomal cleavage prediction reaching a ceiling? [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Epitope vaccines are a promising direction to enable precision treatment for cancer, autoimmune diseases, and allergies. Effectively designing such vaccines requires accurate prediction of proteasomal cleavage in order to ensure that the epitopes in the vaccine are presented to T cells by the major histocompatibility complex (MHC).

A crystal cleavage mechanism for UHV STM [PDF]

open access: yesRev. Sci. Instrum. 77, 116116 (2006), 2008
A device for UHV cleavage of crystal specimens for the use with STM has been suggested and developed. We present a device suitable for the precise cleavage of semiconductors. The device needs only small space and can be easily mounted in a small and compact UHV chamber equipped with a wobble stick manipulator.

Investigation of quasi-cleavage in a hydrogen charged maraging stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Slow strain rates tests (SSRT) were conducted on hydrogen-containing specimens of PH13-8Mo maraging stainless steel. Hydrogen-assisted subcritical quasi-cleavage cracking was shown to take place during SSRT, thus accelerating material failure. Fractographic analysis showed that quasi-cleavage is composed of flat brittle areas and rougher areas.

Synthetic Lignin Oligomers: Analytical Techniques, Challenges, and Opportunities

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
The review begins by discussing lignin and its structural complexity, followed by challenges in elucidating depolymerization products and the analytical techniques used. It then focuses on the chemical structure of synthetic lignin oligomers, their synthesis mechanisms, and their significance in current science. Finally, scientific gaps are identified,

Mechanochemistry: Unravelling the Impact of Metal Leaching in Organic Synthesis

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
The analysis of metal leaching from jar walls remains an overlooked aspect during the development of a mechanochemical reaction. This comprehensive study reveals the processes of metal erosion and the formation of rusty particles under intense grinding conditions, alongside their significant impact on chemical reaction efficiency, selectivity, and ...

Reply to the discussion and comments of Pestilho, A.L.S. and Mors, R.A. (2025) on the paper by Gomes et al. (2024). Early diagenetic evolution based on petrography and stable isotope analysis in the Barra Velha Formation of the Brazilian Pre‐salt. The Depositional Record, 1–25. https://doi.org/10.1002/dep2.288

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, EarlyView.
Abstract We very much appreciate the comments of André; Pestilho and Agustin Mors on our paper discussing the early diagenesis of the Pre‐salt carbonates (Barra Velha Formation, BVF) in the Santos Basin (Gomes et al., 2024). We welcome the opportunity to respond and to clarify our interpretations concerning dolomite formation, diagenetic timing and ...
