Shear-Induced Unfolding Activates von Willebrand Factor A2 Domain for Proteolysis [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Thromb. Haemost. 2009 (7), 2096-2105, 2009
To avoid pathological platelet aggregation by von Willebrand factor (VWF), VWF multimers are regulated in size and reactivity for adhesion by ADAMTS13-mediated proteolysis in a shear flow dependent manner. We examined if tensile stress in VWF under shear flow activates the VWF A2 domain for cleavage by ADAMTS13 using molecular dynamics simulations.

Petrogenetic and geochemical characteristics of some auriferous granitoids in the Kumasi Basin, Ghana: Implications for geodynamic settings and controls of orogenic gold mineralization in the Edikan Gold Mine

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The Fobinso granitoids are granodiorites, while the Esuajah granitoids are granites based on their mineralogical composition. The granitoids are generally enriched in LILE and LREE than HFSE, MREE, and HREE, indicating mixing with crustal sources during their evolution.

Corrosion effect of hydrochloric acid on the granite: Insights from electrical conductivity, mineral composition, and tensile behavior

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The evolution of electrical conductivity, mineral composition, and tensile behavior such as peak strength, average stiffness, and the energy evolution of the granite specimen under different HCl conditions are studied, analyzed as well as quantified, and investigated, respectively.

Non-Canonical GC Base Pairs and Mechanochemical Cleavage of DNA [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Properties of non-canonical GC Base Pairs and their relation with mechanochemical cleavage of DNA are analyzed. A hypothesis of the involvement of the Transient GC Wobble Base Pairs in the mechanisms of the mechanochemical cleavage of DNA and epigenetic mechanisms with participation of 5-methylcytosine is proposed.

Geology prediction based on operation data of TBM: comparison between deep neural network and statistical learning methods [PDF]

open access: yes2019 1st International Conference on Industrial Artificial Intelligence (IAI), 2018
Tunnel boring machine (TBM) is a complex engineering system widely used for tunnel construction. In view of the complicated construction environments, it is necessary to predict geology conditions prior to excavation. In recent years, massive operation data of TBM has been recorded, and mining these data can provide important references and useful ...

Spatial Reconstruction of Pore‐Crack Microstructure and Its Topological Configuration Relationship With Connectivity and Pore‐Scale Flow in Coal by 3D‐XRM

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In consideration of the significance of connectivity features and topological relationships within the pore‐crack network, the micro‐scale pore‐crack microstructure of intact and tectonic coals from Qinan was investigated in 3D spatial visualization using digital core technology.

Lentils can Absorb Amino Acids as a Nitrogen Source Supporting Early Growth

open access: yesJournal of Plant Nutrition and Soil Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Lentils (Lens culinaris Medik.) are a valuable crop due to their high nutritional content, low environmental impact, and nitrogen‐fixing ability via rhizobacteria. Early in development, before this symbiosis is established, lentils require external nitrogen, typically supplied through fertilizers or already present in soils.

Application of 3D Raman Mapping on Complex Inclusions: A Case Study of the Styrian Basin Mantle Xenoliths (W‐Carpathian Pannonian Region)

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Recent advancements in spectral and spatial resolutions for Raman spectroscopy allow the analysis of fluid and melt inclusions. To explore the applicability of 3D Raman mapping, we conducted 3D Raman mapping on inclusions hosted by orthopyroxene in modally metasomatized mantle xenoliths from the Styrian Basin (W‐Carpathian Pannonian Region).

Sixty Years of Sugarcane Monoculture Alters Carbon Preservation in Large Soil Macroaggregates in Tropical Soil

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Frequent and intensive tillage in conventional agriculture disrupts soil aggregates, engendering significant depletion of soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks. Long‐term studies are essential for assessing the impact of sustainable practices on aggregate dynamics and carbon sequestration in sugarcane monocropping in tropical ecosystems.

Forecasting climate and human alterations to coastal and estuarine dissolved organic matter

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography Letters, EarlyView.
Abstract River networks serve as conduits for dissolved organic matter (DOM) and carbon (DOC) from inland to coastal waters. Human activities and climate change are altering DOM sources, causing hydrological and biogeochemical shifts that impact DOC concentrations and changing the transport and transformation of DOM and DOC. Here, we synthesize current
