Lessons from Cleomaceae, the Sister of Crucifers

Trends in Plant Science, 2018
Cleomaceae is a diverse group well-suited to addressing fundamental genomic and evolutionary questions as the sister group to Brassicaceae, facilitating transfer of knowledge from the model Arabidopsis thaliana. Phylogenetic and taxonomic revisions provide a framework for examining the evolution of substantive morphological and physiology diversity in ...

Taxonomic Revision of Tarenaya (Cleomaceae)

Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden, 2022
A taxonomic revision of the species currently circumscribed in Tarenaya Raf. (Cleomaceae) is presented here. Tarenaya comprises 38 species distributed from Mexico to Argentina (except for Chile) and the West Indies, and with one species disjunct in Central Africa.

Nomenclatural notes in Physostemon (Cleomaceae)

Phytotaxa, 2020
Physostemon (Cleomaceae) includes 15 taxa in 10 species distributed from Mexico and the Caribbean south to Brazil and Paraguay. A full nomenclatural synonymy is presented including 7 lectotypes and 5 new combinations. Mitostylis species are moved to Physostemon based on morphological and molecular phylogenetic evidence.

Resolved phylogeny of Cleomaceae based on all three genomes

Taxon, 2014
AbstractCleomaceae is a small pantropical family that is emerging as a promising system to investigate C4 photosynthesis, floral evolution, and comparative genomics. However, our understanding of these phenomena is hindered by a lack of a strong phylogenetic hypothesis, despite a number of previous studies.

Independent Ancient Polyploidy Events in the Sister Families Brassicaceae and Cleomaceae [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Cell, 2006
Abstract Recent studies have elucidated the ancient polyploid history of the Arabidopsis thaliana (Brassicaceae) genome. The studies concur that there was at least one polyploidy event occurring some 14.5 to 86 million years ago (Mya), possibly near the divergence of the Brassicaceae from its sister family, Cleomaceae.

Corynandra telanganensis (Cleomaceae), a New Species from India

Annales Botanici Fennici, 2020
Corynandra telanganensis J. Swamy & Rasingam (Cleomaceae), a new species from Telangana, India is described and illustrated. Morphologically it resembles C. aspera, but differs from it by having very small and erect habit, a glabrous stem, simple leaves, solitary flowers, four stamens and capsules with 1–5 seeds.
