Climate change has been linked to widespread changes in the distributions and abundances of many wild bee species; yet, the local‐scale processes that generate these patterns are unclear. From 2013 to 2022, we tracked individual reproductive output (brood cell production) in over 700 solitary female mason bees at seven sites in the Colorado Rocky ...

Acoustic communication in bark beetles (Scolytinae): 150 years of research
We review publications spanning 153 years of research on bark beetle bioacoustics—we summarize existing knowledge, identify gaps and propose avenues for future research in this field. At least five sound production mechanisms have been reported across 125 examined species of bark beetles, with elytro‐tergal, gular‐prosternal and vertex‐pronotum ...

Patterns of aerial arthropod biomass and diversity from three regions of boreal Alaska
We documented aerial arthropod biomass and diversity over 4 years in three regions in boreal Alaska—two in central Alaska and one in southcentral Alaska. Traps yielded 115,078 specimens of 15 orders and 692 unique taxa. Mean aerial arthropod biomass was more than three times higher in Fairbanks than in Anchorage.

The evolutionary history of Coleoptera (Insecta) in the late Palaeozoic and the Mesozoic
Structural transformations of the elytra and abdomen played a major role in the early beetle evolution in the Permian. Polyphaga appear late in the fossil record, with only a few fossils of Elateriformia in the Late Triassic. Several factors were involved in the enormous diversification of beetles in the Cretaceous but evolutionary interactions with ...
