Intramolecular Interactions between Folded and Disordered Regions Shape Ubiquilin Structure and Function

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Ubiquilin (UBQLN), like many other human proteins, contains both well‐folded and disordered regions. Here, we show that intramolecular interactions between disordered regions and folded domains modulate between open and closed topologies of UBQLN proteins, altering their structure and function.

Biomimetic Nanoplatform for Dual Target Nano‐Metabolic Therapy in Diabetes‐Associated Biofilm Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A biomimetic GOx/Arg‐loaded nanoplatform produces nitric oxide through an in situ catalytic cascade reaction, enabling dual‐target metabolic regulation in diabetes‐associated biofilm infections. Bacterial metabolism is disrupted, and macrophage immunometabolism is reprogrammed, resulting in biofilm eradication, immune restoration, and enhanced ...

QRICH1 Disrupts Endoplasmic Reticulum Homeostasis and Amplifies NF‐κB Signaling in Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells to Exacerbate Diabetic Periodontitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
QRICH1 has been established as a key factor contributing to impaired osteogenic potential and accelerated apoptosis of PDLSCs in diabetic periodontitis. QRICH1 not only significantly enhances UPR‐associated apoptotic signaling but also amplifies NF‐κB‐mediated inflammatory responses. Its inhibition restores osteogenic capacity and reduces alveolar bone

Safety of Sodium‐Ion Batteries: Evaluation and Perspective from Component Materials to Cells, Modules, and Packs

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review provides a bottom‐up evaluation of sodium‐ion battery safety, linking material degradation mechanisms, cell engineering parameters, and module/pack assembly. It emphasizes that understanding intrinsic material stability and establishing coordinated engineering control across hierarchical levels are vital for preventing degradation coupling ...

Polyamines delay leaf maturation in low‐alkaloid tobacco varieties

open access: yesPlant Direct, 2018
The development of low‐alkaloid (LA) tobacco varieties is an important target in the tobacco breeding industry. However, LA Burley 21 plants, in which the Nic1 and Nic2 loci controlling nicotine biosynthesis are deleted, are characterized by impaired ...

A Large Scale Multi‐Modal Workflow for Battery Characterization: From Concept to Implementation

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Isolated characterization techniques produce independent datasets and single‐property insights. However, progressively more holistic interpretations of battery‐material behavior is needed in the future. Here we demonstrate a coordinated multimodal workflow enabling the correlation of heterogeneous datasets and the construction of multidimensional ...

Modeling the population health impact of accurate and inaccurate perceptions of harm from nicotine

open access: yesHarm Reduction Journal
Background Scientific evidence clearly demonstrates that inhaling the smoke from the combustion of cigarettes is responsible for most of the harm caused by smoking, and not the nicotine. However, a majority of U.S.

Rural Labor Supply and Economic Opportunities: Commuting, Migration, Tariffs, and Immigration

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Some rural counties remain dependent on agricultural or manufacturing jobs, but an increasing proportion have diversified economics. Rural counties also differ in their abilities to commute to an urban market characterized by higher wages and labor productivity.

Preventable in-hospital deaths and years of life lost were uncommon among patients in a Finnish secondary teaching hospital

open access: yesArchives of Public Health
Background Despite quality standards and trained personnel, deaths caused by adverse events occur in healthcare. Estimates of in-hospital deaths caused by avoidable harm are contradictory. Old age and comorbidities increase the risk of death from adverse
