How Then Do We Choose to Live? Facing the Climate Crisis and Seeking “the Meta Response” [PDF]
The author observes that a sense of hopelessness appears to be forming in our culture in response to recent descriptions of the impact of climate crisis. This reaction is compared to the way people respond to diagnoses of life threatening illness. Stages

Modulating Electrochemical CO2 Reduction Pathways via Interfacial Electric Field
Engineering interfacial electric fields in Cu/ITO electrodes enables precise control of CO2 reduction pathways. Charge transfer from Cu to ITO generates positively charged Cu species that steer selectivity from ethylene toward methane. This work demonstrates how interfacial electric‐field modulation can direct reaction intermediates and transform ...

Bloodstream infections (BSI) are one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in both civilian and military populations. This paper summarizes recent progress in novel treatment strategies to manage BSI arising from both bacterial and fungal pathogens using molecules, particles, and materials to elicit host‐directed immunity.

Copper catalysts introduced with different non‐metallic elements regulating the coordination number of Cu are prepared by magnetron sputtering. Reducing the Cu coordination number enhances C─C coupling and boosts C2+ product selectivity, by lowering the energy barrier for the *CO → *CHO conversion step. The optimized Si‐doped Cu catalyst achieves a C2+

Backbone Heterojunction Photocatalysts for Efficient Sacrificial Hydrogen Production
Herein, a ‘single‐component’ organic semiconductor photocatalyst is presented in which a molecular donor is bonded to a polymer acceptor. The resultant material demonstrates exceptional photocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution in aqueous triethylamine with an outstanding external quantum efficiency of 38% at 420 nm.

Preparing for the Next, Very Long Crisis: Towards a ‘Cool’ Science and Technology Policy Agenda For a Globally Warming Economy [PDF]
This short paper on a very big subject deals with a worry - a worry that the present economic crisis is likely to contribute to the already-existing temptations of governmental and private actors alike to behave in a time-inconsistent fashion when ...
