Deep Learning-Based Medium- and Long-Term Ozone Forecasting for Megacity Shanghai, China

open access: yesAerosol and Air Quality Research
Accurate ozone concentration forecasting is crucial for effective air quality management and environmental protection. However, most of the existing forecasting models focus on short-term (24–72 h) forecasts and lack validation for extended horizons ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

A review of the global climate change impacts, adaptation strategies, and mitigation options in the socio-economic and environmental sectors

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Science and Economics, 2023
Climate change causes long-term weather changes from the tropics to the polls. It is a global threat that strains several sectors. The present study conducts a review analysis that theoretically explores how climatic variability is degrading global ...

Can plants help us avoid seeding a human‐made climate catastrophe?

open access: yesPlants, People, Planet, 2019
Societal Impact Statement Human‐made climate change places the future of the planet in peril. Rapid greenhouse gas emissions over the past few decades already commit Earth to a warmer climate state and lock‐in future extinctions.

Carbon sequestration in soils and climate change mitigation—Definitions and pitfalls

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, 2023
The term carbon (C) sequestration has not just become a buzzword but is something of a siren's call to scientific communicators and media outlets. Carbon sequestration is the removal of C from the atmosphere and the storage, for example, in soil.
